  • Phi Golf version 2

I received a nice email from PhiGolf announcing a new Kickstart for the new and improved PhiGolf system 2. With a new and improved sensor for real ball striking, and improved more realistic feeling swing stick. Its Kickstart also offers 3 months of E6 Connect and WGT golf, and a permanent license for their new Phigolf sim software. It looks like a nice model. Phigolf works pretty well, but I never liked the top-of-the-grip mounting system they use (simply it was hard to move the sensor club to club when using real clubs), and their swing stick grip was like grabbing twig. Still, it's a good system. I simply needed a more adult size grip. Anyway, the new version looks like they are out to fix these kinds of issues, so if anyone is interested I thought I would drop a word about here. The kickstart pricing is awesome if you have patience and do understand there are no guarantees with a kickstart. I was a kickstart supporter with their first model and was and still am very pleased with how it developed. Great way to get in on the ground floor. Already it looks like it will be a big hit.

I had started to research the original a bit. How realistic is it? How close to your real shots would you say it is

It seems very realistic playing it. I would say +/-5% for sure on distances. If you do get one, use a marker and put a straight line on the ball to get your face angle square with your setup. It uses your setup to determine where you are aiming. It is enjoyable.

Don't think moving a device from one club to another that sticks into the butt of the grip is going to work very well. I would on use it on real clubs. I had a tittle and for me the short club device didn't really feel like swinging an actual club.

Cool they're coming out with an updated version. But a little disingenuous in their comparison chart; saying that the Tittle can't be used with real balls. Which frankly is the most important thing with club attached monitors/sims (IMHO). Not to mention you can get the Swinglogic (previously Tittle X) without the swing stick for $129. So unless you need a swing stick, the sensor accuracy of the Phi 2 would have to be really good to warrant almost twice the price.

My only concern with the top of the grip mount would be having to drill out the hole at the top of the grip just to easily move the sensor from club to club. If you're brave, go for it. It probably will work well, and you can always re-grip your clubs. Actually drilling out the hole may work ok. Here is an image of what I use with my Tittle-X; the Wilson Sam Snead Signature clubs with Tittle-X my home-brew chip cradles. I find it really easy to move the chip club to club.
