  • MLM2Pro subscription and RPT balls

    Premium subscriptions:

MLM2Pro is a fantastic unit for the price. I'm currently testing against the Mevo plus and GC3 but will soon test it against the Skytrak 2 and Eye Mini. I've had it for a month and I am testing without the premium package to see how it will be if folks don't spend the $199 yearly subscription. I realize you get 1 year free and will sign up now that I have tested without the premium. I just wanted to get an idea of what it would be like without premium and share that with you.

Without the subscription you can't play full courses in E6, Awesome golf or GSPro. You don't see the spin data (spin or spin axis) and get a 2 D representation of the ball flight which matches the GC3 flight absolutely perfect. You need to set it at net mode and use the RPT balls. It obviously measures spin and spin axis with these balls but just doesn't display the numbers. It would be fantastic if they would include a 3D ball flight for a more immersive experience for non premium members who just want a driving range. The 2 D flight and data tiles are fine but very, very bland compared to a 3D range. Certainly it's not as fun but just ok for practice. Again a 3D range would be a welcome. I personally would recommend the premium for better immersion and 3rd party software options.

    RPT balls and stickers:

The RPT balls are absolutely needed for spin and spin axis measurement. In the app you have the option of selecting range/premium/RPT balls. You can also select net or range mode as well as altitude. These options will determine not just spin measurement but also flight and distance. Premium ball selection will essentially show a straight shot but better distance. The ideal is absolutely RPT balls.

The RPT balls are Callaway chrome soft with a special marker patter. They only come with Callaway and there are no other options from Rapsoda. You get a sleeve with your purchase. They are not my ball of choice so there are stickers that can be purchased to allow you to use your ball of choice. These stickers are easy to apply and work great but do wear out over time. Overall they are are great and well priced.

I've been using a GC Quad at my home club for the past two years and finally just invested into my own Simulator set up using the Rhapsodo MLM2Pro. I'm sure some folks may disagree given the massive disparity in price points, but after having used both units extensively, I am not convinced that the Data between the two units, especially considering the cost difference, is much different. The MLM2Pro, at under $1000, is an absolutely fantastic launch monitor!!!

          Great info! Thanks for posting.

I’ve been trying to decide between Garmin R10 and Rapsodo MLM2PRO and have been wondering exactly this. I want to have reasonable trust in the shot shape hitting into a net, but hate the subscription model with MLM2PRO. And given spin/spin axis are behind the paywall, I debated whether MLM2PRO w/o subscription is really any more accurate than R10.

It sounds like you would say yes?

I had asked Rapaodo support is there a “driving range like feature” without the subscription that still shows a shot shape incorporating spin axis, even if it doesn’t show you the numbers? Their answer was not very encouraging, basically “you only get Rapsodo driving range with the premium subscription”.

Is the 2D shot shape you’re describing just even more basic than that? Like no targets or anything, but a tile in an app which shows the shape of the shot?

Thanks again for the helpful info!

foolintherain33 The MLM2Pro comes with a free 1 year subscription to Rapsodo courses, range etc and the spin and shape shot is 100% bang on. The Rapsodo courses lack topography so every course seems similar to the next but its still great to play and the range is fantastic. Although it shows say 8 data points out of 12 or so available, you can toggle between the 12 options and choose the data you want to see most. I intend to purchase a gaming PC and integrate GSPro soon which only costs $250 a year for the subscription. The MLM2Pro paired with GSPro is a combo that I am convinced you will be extremely happy with. If you have any additional questions regarding this LM, let me know as I have had mine for approx 3 months and I have put this thing through the ringer! Good Luck!

              Thanks UnderPar!

Have you had any connection issues with it? I’ve read many struggling with it dropping during multiplayer games on E6 or other third party software, but it seems like they may have improved this recently?

By the way, here’s what Rapsodo support told me I would get if I ever decided not to renew the $200 premium subscription:

“You can still have access to practice mode, and it will provide you with these metrics:

Club Speed, Smash Factor, Launch Angle, Launch Direction, Distance, Ball Speed, Side Carry, and Shot Type.

There will be no other graphics aside from your shot vision, and you will also have limited storage since you won't have access to R-Cloud.“

So sounds like no graphic of shot shape, but hopefully side carry and shot type would still incorporate spin/spin axis.

foolintherain33 Thanks for sharing what you've learned. From what I can tell, the connection issues with the MLM2Pro appear to have been a 2023 issue which has since been resolved. I haven't had a single connection issue in 3 months and this LM gets a ton of use.

If the yearly subscription cost is a deal breaker, the R10 might be a better option for you. I've had my MLM2Pro for almost a month, and during this time, there have already been two updates. I'm also preparing to participate in a beta trial for their upcoming Target Range feature. This new play mode allows you to practice shots you would encounter on the golf course by hitting from different tee boxes to various green and fairway targets. I mention this because it appears that Rapsodo is actively working on firmware updates to enhance connectivity and functionality. Just my 2 cents.
