I have been planning a simulator build for the winter and I bought the MLM2PRO the day it was announced hoping for a "good" simulator launch monitor. I wasn't demanding or expecting perfection, but I had a few basic wants:
1) A lot of courses to choose from
2) The ability to play with friends on a simulated course
3) Reasonable accuracy and functionality. IE I didn't care if it was 10 yards off, I just wanted it to work.
I got my MLM2PRO in April and the summer golf season started. I've been playing real courses outside, so I have not put much pressure on using the MLM2PRO as I'd rather be on a real course. Today however we decided to test out my friends new sim layout with new pad, net etc. So I brought over the MLM2PRO hoping that the recent app work, firmware etc would make it more enjoyable to use. We planned to try a course on E6 as we had not used that before and also since we cannot have more than a single player on the Rapsodo courses.
Honestly, I am just shocked they launched it without multiplayer support on the Rapsodo courses. That was a severely bad decision.
It took me 30 minutes to get a session going with the MLM2PRO and E6. Every time I would launch Rapsodo app and connect the list of 3rd party apps was empty! Finally after deciding to use my friends WiFi we got the list and we decided to play Stone Canyon. But wasted 30 minutes getting to that point with multiple app hangs, restarts, iPad reboot.
We started off on a few holes trying to get used to the E6 interface but things were going "ok". The only issue was my buddy tends to hit low stingers and these were not being read well by the MLM2PRO. More often than not it shot him off into the rocks when I could clearly see the shot was going to streak down the fairway.
At about hole 12 we started to get consistent no-reads. Usually at 100 yards or less from the hole, like in a trap, we would hit, hit again, hit good shots and nothing would be picked up. One time we dropped the ball and it picked up the next shot but on at least 3 holes we just took the penalty and advanced to the next hole.
On hole 17 we both tried to hit drives. Mine was a nice medium launch that was a no-read. I hit three in a row: no-read. We switched to my buddy and he hit his stinger. No read. He finally tried a pitching wedge on like a par 5 and it still was a no-read. So we gave up.
Honestly, for the money I paid this was embarrassing to use as my buddies Garmin R-10 just works flawlessly. Over last winter we played probably 20 rounds of golf on the R-10 with 3 or 4 players and rarely had a no-read or a problem. We were able to enjoy the game. What happened today was simply NOT enjoyable in the least.
I had planned as mentioned above to build a home sim, make the MLM2PRO the center piece but I am so demotivated right now by this device I don't even want to start or spend the money.
Rapsodo gave everyone like an additional 30 days to return the device. That's long past so I have a $700 P.O.S. on my hands that I simply don't want to use.
Honestly, I'd rather spend $3,000 for something that works than spend $700 for something that brings nothing but frustration.
So I've emailed Rapsodo support. I'm sure they will ask about versions, reboots all the normal support crap. But simply put this device has soured my desire to build a home sim. I am going to put it up for sale, take a loss on it and move on. Sad...
It is a product that was launched before it was ready. Another attempt by a vendor to build on hype and grab some market. But the result is a disaster and not worth even considering. Maybe I'll give it another look a year from now when I maybe re-try building my sim.
