  • Square golf review

I wanted to start a thread regarding the Square golf launch monitor. I will be doing a full review and comparing this new unit against launch monitors in its price including the Rapdoda MLM2 Pro and the Garmin R10.

The unit is a dual camera with 8 infrared sensors. It is not a radar unit. It measures both ball and club data. The ball data includes speed, vertical/horizontal launch as well as backspin and side spin. Club data includes club path, face angle, attack angle and dynamic loft.

All balls will work but for more accurate ball data requires marked balls. Square golf have special patterned golf balls much like Rapsoda balls. They have 2 options of balls including a 2 piece ball from Square golf and a 3 piece ball from SaintNine golf from Korea.

The unit uses usb charging and has an 8hr battery life. Connectivity is via Bluetooth.
Software included is a proprietary driving range, closest to the pin and putting software. This is for iOS, android and PC. There are no subscriptions required to use the driving range or specialty software. They also have proprietary course software which allows you to play a full round of golf, including chipping and putting. As of now they only have 10 courses, but more courses will be coming soon. As of now, you can only play strokeplay with these courses, but more modes of play are in the works. Online course is pending. To play the courses requires credits. You are charged one credit per hole of golf played. You are given 1000 free credits upon purchase of the unit. You can purchase additional credits as needed. The credits are not required for using the driving range or specialty software.

The unit is for indoor use and not meant for outdoor usage.

Third-party software such as E6, GS pro and awesome golf are in the works. Credits are not required for the third-party software.

They are working on measured ball data with regular balls. Is

Repeated the test after the latest update and the results show definite improvement in spin and spin axis. It’s not perfect but it is encouraging that they are making some improvements with their updates. I tested wedge, 7 iron, hybrid and driver for full shots and sand wedge putter for chipping and putting. I tried to shape the shots with push draw/cut and pull draw/ cuts. Chipping and putting were pulls and pushes both long and short.
I still am seeing some 0 spin axis that are not real. Occasionally there is still some low spin shots with wedges but overall it’s improved. The sidespin is sometimes the opposite of The GC3 or Protee VX both which I 100 % trust.

Chipping and putting is spot on.

I tested with ball setting of distant ball so the carry seemed better.

      Great tests again

I was hoping for a more positive result from the update to their firmware. I wonder if they actually test it themselves against a GC3. I know they were advertising for a lot of testers also last month and this month. Hopefully they up update again soon. I am still holding off deciding on this unit or the EML.

The update has improved the spin axis accuracy. It isn't perfect but acceptable for sure. There are certain shots where the spin is too low or the axis is opposite but not many. There is less o spin axis overall.

Hi Bubba22 , have you been able to look at testing the club data (with shaft stickers) against things like GC3 etc?

I will get that done soon.

Still cannot find any testing of the club data to see if it is any good to improve my golf. Has anyone seen any real comparisons of club data.

Exactly the same what I have been asking about .... lots of ball data comparisons, but nothing I can find on the Club Data

Does anyone know the e-mail addy of the U.S. office for Square Golf? I just received my unit a few days ago and the verification link was broken. I e-mailed their U.K. Office yesterday, but no reply yet. Probably a time zone issue, which could end up being a pain. I can use it as a guest minus credits, course play, and a couple adjustables. Thanks in advance.

I will test Square club data against the Protee VX or Mevo plus. The GC3 doesn't measure face angle or dynamic loft. From what I am seeing the Square club data is not as accurate in face angle although the rest of the data (path, AOA and dynamic loft) are decent. The problem is that a lot of shots on the Square unit just don't give a measurement (show 0). They need to have more consistency in measurement.

Pity a lot of them are not being picked up for club data and showing 0. Does not sound good at the moment. Thanks for testing it anyway, it will help a lot of people looking for a comparison to make decisions.

          Hi Bubba,

Any updates on spin issues or club data misreads?

What about accuracy of TP5 Pix vs Square pattern balls?

Spin issues are much better. Club data also improved but I do think the club face is not as accurate as path or AOA. They really need to add club speed and obvious smash factor at some point. I don't like the Square balls so prefer TP5 Pix balls. Both read the ball data very well.

I’ve been using pix balls and numbers are really good. Ditto on smash factor and club speed, it’s needed. Maybe add a data spreadsheet with averages, too.

thanks- I am new to forums - is there a square golf detail manual ( I have the basic manual) that describes details of playing a game- e.g. how do you change to line to hit the ball - I tried moving the line on the screen but can only go one way not back and forth ?
