  • TGC Handicap

How does TGC calculate handicap? I have 16 rounds in and my handicap is over 32. My highest round is 112 ( this was the first round I ever played and my ailignment was jacked) but after that all my other rounds have been between 84 and 94. So 32 is way to high.

I also noticed some of the courses I have played have crazy slope ratings some I have seen with a slope of 24. I believe this could be the culprit for my jacked up handicap.

Was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

The handicaps are based on course ratings. The course ratings in TGC are based on scores. People with consoles shoot super low scores ergo the handicaps are based on crazy ratings thus totally useless.

Well that is straight up stupid it should be based on real life rating of the course. They need to fix that in my opinion.

Most courses aren't real though, so there is no real life rating. Courses are designed by the users. Sometimes they base them on real courses but the majority of the 150,000 courses are just fantasy

Why? It's not real life and there is no relation. No sand, no sidehill, uphill, downhill lies. Straight penalize factor for rough and 6' gimmies for tournament. They might be able to do something with courses used in tournament play since you have enough people playing to get a gauge.

The tour has it's own handicapping and it's more accurate. One day your kid hits 50 balls into a lake then finishes his round and bam, up goes your cap. The TGC cap is pointless.

so the handicaps calculated on the golfsimulatortours.com for the tour players are more close to accurate is what you are saying? just making sure im reading this right because mine was different than what TGC calc'd so just was wondering.

Handicaps in TGC are bogus. TGC Tours is accurate.

Speaking of the tour handicaps... Admittedly haven't played a tour event in a while, but why did my tour handicap get changed to a -36? With 11 career events its seems like my tour number was pretty accurate. I could see resetting to 0 if not hitting a minimum number of events in a year or something like that but taking me to -36 seems aggressive. I understand the premise trying to protect the integrity and all, but se Is there an official rule somewhere on this topic?

You don't have shot recording turned on, which is why there is a red x in the SR column next to your name. That was implemented a while ago so that the guys helping run the tour can see if people are abusing the rewinds. There are directions on the forum for setting it up

Oh wow. Thanks for pointing that out. I have had it on but now see that it randomly was shut off a while back. I’ll try to turn it back on.

Does anyone know how to make the handicap not be used/displayed while playing a round? I don't use or care about my handicap, especially since it is grossly overrated because I jump around courses a lot by conceding holes. How do you make it go away?

Change scoring to TOTAL instead of NET in TGC settings in game.

Just go to edit player before starting a round. You can change your name, clothes, etc. In there you can Set your handicap to 0. It should stay like that after 👍🏻

How does the handicap work for Societies? I certainly don't play off scratch but when I entered my first society tournament last week it gave me no strokes.(I thought I was getting what was on my normal 2019 handicap and thought I'd come top 10 lol) I played pretty well and thought I'd get some strokes but I guess they have nothing to reference it against. I noticed that a lot of players had handicaps and wondered where theirs come form. Would they all need to be tour members?

I don't particularly want to join a Tour as such as I cant really dedicate the time to playing my SIM I don't think (although at the moment I think I could). Hopefully real golf will take over soon, and I have other sports and activities most evenings so committing to a tour may not be viable, but popping in and out of society matches seems like a good idea.

You have to play 5 rounds to get a handicap.
