  • Does boosting help make yardages/game play feel closer to real life?

To you guys that use the boost feature (Skytrak), does the boost make it feel a little better compared to real life?

Right now I'm a club shorter than real life but it's about 9-10% less so the 5% boost would get me closer. Do ii jus need to suck it up and get indoor/sim yardages?

You’ll get thru the “indoor swing” phenomenon and pick up 5% speed. Then boost to dial in your clubs no more than 5%. Initially I was way short on irons cuz I hit them so high. I ended up using 3% on irons 2% on wedges and 5 on driver.

I use the 5% boost and it just about corrects the imbalance for real life which is probably closer to 8%.

Really? Boosting to match real life? If anything my SIM numbers are long long than my real life number's. I might need to boost the driver to keep up with you guys

Distance numbers have as much to do with mat as swing speed as contact. Heavier matt can really slow your swing on a heavy hit. If your using one of the thinner mats the club can bounce and increase swing speed. Bottom line..... all numbers are relevant to you and your own perception of correct distance. Best to check your distances IRL then adjust your indoor distance.

Not sure why people get weird numbers compared to outdoors. Your drives are off a tee same as outside so theres No mat in play there and if you're striking the ball then the mat with your irons then you should also see the same results. There is an indoor swing you have at first though that for sure has a mental hold on you at the beginning. Once you feel "free" to swing it hard like outside, then you see similar flight and distance as outdoors.

if you hit your mat first, of course you will see lower numbers than you think you should see. I have a Matzilla which just absolutely eats my clubs up if I hit behind the ball at all. Its definitely made me a better iron player and all my distances are spot on now when I play outside. Of course we are not pros so there will be a variance because we wont strike the center of the face 100% of the time but I've been hitting greens way more this year than last that's for sure.

I hope you are right about both the indoor swing and the impact of the hitting mat. I am just up and running and basically trying things out. With ProTee hitting mat, my 7-iron and PW distances are 15% to 20% lower than what I see on the course and at the driving range.

I typically play on zoysia grass fairways which lets the ball sit up very nicely. Over the years I guess that I have developed an iron swing that sweeps the ball off the zoysia. It gives very nicely and is almost like hitting the ball off a very short tee. With my ProTee mat, it seems that the club head loses quite a bit of speed when I swing like this. I guess I will have to develop the "hit the ball first" iron swing...both on the course and indoors.
