  • Help me figure out the best way to use TGC outside!

    Hi All,

I'm one of the unlucky few who don't have a dedicated sim room. I do however have a backyard set up that allows me to get a ton of practice in etc.

I've had TGC for a while now and never get a chance to use it because I am outside. I already have a computer that can run TGC with ease and sits ~ 50 feet away from my outdoor set up.

I have an idea on the best way to set this all up. Previously I've used splashtop to copy the screen on my CPU onto my outside iPad. Where things get dicey is how to control my CPU from outside (moving my aiming point hole overviews etc).

Anyone have any good apps or thoughts on how to remote control a CPU from outside? I was thinking of downloading a mouse app for my phone and controlling it that way.

Anyone else have any good set ups for this?

    Thanks,

50ft may be a long shot but what about wireless keyboard and mouse? But then you need a monitor out there as well...

If you have a laptop on the same network (assuming both are Windows machine), you can remote in to the desktop. You might see frame rate issues with your graphics due to 3D graphics not usually rendering well to the remote laptop.

I use Steam Link, got the idea from Sardak. My computer is in my office in the house and I have my sim in the garage. I run a network cable out there so it works really well. Just have an extra keyboard and mouse out there. Not sure if it will work on wifi though.

Yeah I've been using it for quite a while now...almost a year I think. Only had a couple of issues. One was video, need a splitter to use a monitor and a projector, has only one HDMI port out. Splitter works but it slips back and forth between the projector and the monitor at first. Eventually after a few seconds both are working. Secondly, steam upgrades it now and then and during that steam link acts funny and it takes a while to do it.
        Otherwise very happy with it.

Thanks all! I have a laptop sitting around doing nothing, so i might try remote laptop into my desktop. Didn't think about this, this would solve a ton of my issues!

Beggars can't be choosers when it comes to just trying to play I could probably still use the iPad as a remote screen. I was thinking about using a wireless keyboard and mouse but I'm afraid i'd be to far away from the CPU.

For steamlink, would be cool but still doesn't address being able to control my cpu.
