    Putting in TGC with Skytraj

Pulled the trigger on a decent gaming PC and TGC for my SkyTrak.

Played for the first time today and putting is absolutely awful, to the point of just making all putts gimmes.

Example- 12ft flat putt, hit dead straight and it reads 10ft long and left. Hit he exact same putt coming back (flat) and it’s 6 ft short and right.

Not to mention, I have to hit 5 or 6 putts on some occasions (usually shorter 9-12 ft putts) to read a putt even once.

Any tips here? It’s so bad I’m about to just set it to gimmes. Understand putting isn’t going to be great with SkyTrak, but this is awful.

Putting and chipping are weaknesses in all sims. I play on a HD golf system ($50,000) in a simulator league and putting is just as frustrating. Make sure putting correction is on in your skytrak settings. Other than that just take practice, IMHO. Misreads are probably setup related.

I mean, I guess I can take comfort in knowing my IRL handicap is way better than my sim handicap

I've been trying setting the ball up about 5-6" behind the dot and putting though it. Seems to cut down on the misreads. Also turned on putting correction in the setup in TGC. It's still a bit curious.
I have a friend who putts much more smoothly than me and he gets substantially better results in the sim (as well as on the course). My putts tend to "skitter" a bit as opposed to roll smoothly, his just track like silk.

Also, after a putt that goes astray hit the "i" key and see what the SkyTrak read. I've had putts that rolled straight that the 'Trak said I pushed or pulled. Or ones that went askew that the 'trak said were hit square. Another note, double check your alignment. For about $10 you can get a carpenter's laser level at Menards or Lowes etc.that will throw a red line where it is pointed. Snug it up to your SkyTrak and see if where you think you're hitting is where the "trak thinks you're hitting.
Be patient, the putting and chipping is perhaps the weakest part of TGC and SkyTrak but once you get it figured out it's really pretty nice. And once you're on the green use the "E" key to see the putt's line and then the "V" key repeatedly to see the same line from different angles.

Turn on the straight putting patch. ST is not very good at all for reading shorter putts. Also, turn on 6' gimmies, that's what's used on tour and works well for playing. When friends come over, i turn it up to like 12' since putting on a sim takes some getting used to.

I play in a sim league as well. The putting and chipping in Trackman are no better than what I have on SkyTrak.

With that said, I think TGC is a far better graphics program than what Trackman is currently running and I haven't even tried 2019a yet.

What’s the straight putting patch? This is a brand new download, so it should be the most up to date, or is this patch separate?

To turn on Straight Putts, open TGC. Before you start the server, click on the Settings button. It should open a text file. You will need to change the Putt Correction to ON. Then save the file. Then start TGC server and start game.

If you have issues saving your changes in the txt file, you will need to find the icon on desktop or actual file location and "Right Click" and "Open as Administrator", then make changes and save.

Putting on sim is the biggest issue with push/pull issues, so once you force all putts straight you only need to worry about speed and aim. This will make playing TGC more enjoyable and able to play and putt more realistically.
