Fringe putts

Who thinks the penalty for putting off the fringe is to severe? I was just hanging just off the green about few inches on the fringe looking at a 35ft down hill putt and I hit a decent putt and it went 7 feet. Now I know the Pitt I hit should have carried to the whole no problem.

Either the penalty for putting off fringe is to severe or I am doing something wrong.

Sorry I put this in TGC2019. I ment to put this in the original TGC thread can someone please move this to just the regular TGC THREADS?

Are you sure you had it in putting mode? I've had that happen and took what I thought was a good firm putt at it that went nowhere. The then realized I'd just putted a lob wedge soft as a kitten..... I've found the fringe putts reasonable but get onto the fairway one inch and you better put a full shoulder turn on your putter.

If you aren’t on the green but want to putt you must have it in putting mode. You need to press P key on keyboard or press Putter on the TGC Remote Keyboard.

You should them see in top right screen the club selected is a putter. When normally playing TGC and you hit on to the green it automatically selects Putter for your club. But off the green make sure to change.

Yup I was doing something wrong then .....I was not changing to a putter. Thanks

Putting the game in putting mode removes spin from the shot so it'll roll. If you putt from the fringe in chipping mode it'll skid a lot.

Ah ha. That makes sense as to the opposite situation. Chipping from the green is impossible because the ball rockets off after hitting the ground. The no spin thing makes sense.

I chip from the green with out hesitation, some puts just seem impossible to me on this game. I do change shot though before I do it.
