  • Calculating downhill into yardage to pin

IS there a Math formula for uphill and downhill: for example 550 yards to pin but also 180 downhill . How do you calculate how many yards to subtract from the 550 to reflect the 180 downhill? Any suggestions?

It depends on a lot of things, including ball speed, peak height, spin degradation, descent angles… etc.

Your example would require hitting multiple shots and various club selections, IMO

An example would be calculating the first shot from point A to point B with your club selection.
Then another calculation would be required for the next shot.
Keep in mind, every player hits a ball further or less than others which requires different equations for everyone.
It would also need corrections for various factors; IE Altitude Adjustment, ball type, course conditions, etc.
So, how could you ever come up with any formula which would apply to everyone?

And it also depends on the factors mentioned by Erik.

Most people just do a 1:1 adjustment as the typical descent angle is roughly 45 degrees. As mentioned by others, it much more complicated than that.
