  • Course Files and uploads

Rookie question... I have a course i'm working on using TGC software for PC (not simulator edition). What is the process to get that onto the ProTee server? Do I need to copy the course file over to my PC that runs the simulator, then open it on there and publish it? Where are the files location? I did a wildcard search for various parts of my course name across my entire hard drive, but no results came up.

I thought it was on one of the main threads in TGC but could not find it there today.

Here was from a post when I searched hidden directory.

Courses are located in: You might need have show hidden directories in your computer turned on.

    c:\users\(your name)\Appdata\locallow\HB Studios\The Golf Club\Courses

The files are not named what you name them but rather a number and random letters. I tend to look at the date created on the file to get an idea of which one it is. Then drag that file onto a USB and take it to your sim computer and drag it into the same location there. Then when you go to course creator you will see it show up. Only issue is when the PC version is newer and if you use a theme or object that may not be in our sim version yet, it will show up weird or not load at all if it is a theme issue. If you publish that course from your sim computer it will show up right away for all of us to play. Then it will no longer be in the course designer but if you search with my courses, it will show up there and I think you can alter it. Just can't delete them on our own.

Things to keep in mind when making a course for us sim users is first of all name it with Protee in the name.

Also keep the day light settings so that there are not a lot of shadows. It's hard on the sim with a projector to see the course with a lot of shadows. PC looks great but sim not so good.

Wild greens will not play well either. Too much slope in greens is no good and if there is place the flag at least in a flatter area.

On a GC2 if you don't hit a ball with a lot of spin on it, you won't get it to stop quick on greens. Some flag positions you need major spin to stop them from just running off the back of greens. On the Protee system they calculate spin so you will always get the calculated spin.

Thanks SFR! Another question...do you know what happens if we load a course to the protee server, then it's released on the PC/console server with the same name? When ProTee does a course sync, will the one on the ProTee server be overwritten? Or does the sync only bring over courses that don't exist? (Maybe a question for ProTee)

I'm putting together a driving range first. I'm also 40% of the way through a mini-golf course that I wanted to create for my wife and younger son to play on the simulator...I've put way too much time into it. Ridiculous...but once you get started it's hard to stop!

Another question... If I want to release a couple variations of my range, how do you duplicate the course to a new name?

To make different versions of a course, what I do is pull the file from that hidden folder onto a USB with a name picked. Then I will re name that course and then alter it. Then when you drag it to the Sim computer it will have a different name. As long as you drag the course file to the USB first and then re name it through the course designer and work on it and then drag that file over a second time, they should all show up with their different names.

As far as same names being used, if you wanted, I think you could name the course the exact same thing, and then they all would show up when you typed that name in but you would not know which was which unless you can tell by the photo you pick to publish with it. I don't think anything gets written over by having the same name. In fact you will see that a lot with all the courses created already.

I would suggest not using the same name to publish a course on the PC as you would on the sim. This is where if you have one listed as "mini golf" just re-name the other "mini golf Protee" before you publish it on the sim computer.
