Top 10 Real Courses

I'm interested in keeping a list of the top 10 real courses out there, at this point (in no particular order) I have,

Pine Valley - Blue Tees by Craig118 (6,613 yards)
Whistling Straits - Blue Tees by Craig118 (6,627 yards)
The Walker Course - Tiger Tees by Williamhotel69 (6,922 yard) (something about 300 yards shorter would be great)
Magnolia National - Masters Edition Blue by theClv24 (6,769 yards)
Merion East (Friday) - by theClv24 (6,700 yards)
Pinehurst #2 Blue Tees - by theClv24 (6,602 yards)
Spyglass Hill 2015 - by Yeltzman (6,877 yards) (something 300 yards shorter would be great)
Pebble Beach Golf Links (Protee) by friendbomber (6,230 yards) (would love something 300 yards longer)

As you can see there are only 8 courses on this list so far, as I find and play others I will add to the list. Also you might note that I prefer tracks around 6,600 yards, because I find courses play easier on the sim then in real life so that extra distance over say 6,200 yards helps bridge that gap a bit.

I like this idea and tried to get this going last year so I'll add. One suggestion is just posting the course. There's lots of versions of these courses and everyone's length preference is different.

Here's a few I liked but they are long:

TPC Scottsdale
Chambers Bay, WA Sunday
PGA West (Palmer)
Merion East, Ardmore PA

Here is my list so far of real courses. I also keep a list of fictional courses that at this point is about 130 courses long. The Pre-Rank is my interest level of playing the course and the Post-Rank is my ranking after I played it. BTW, my Whistling Straits rating is going to go up. I put that in the first time I played it but after two more rounds for the PGA Championship it will probably go up to something like a 9.3 or 9.4. Will update it after my final round.

Thanks guys this is exactly the feedback I wanted to see, maybe I'll move more to a spreadsheet as you have done KS-Man and put the course with different yardages, and with my rating. I'd like to get to 10 courses but ultimately 25, sort of like the college football rankings.

Search the Course Discovery (Completed Only) forum at HB-Studios. There you can see pictures as well as other user comments about the course. The main thing you want to do is figure out the courses that are close to the real life versions. Most of the courses I've never played and the others I've only played once or twice so I wouldn't really know how accurate they are. The people over there seem to have a much better sense what is a realistic recreation and what isn't.

I think the goal is to eventually get everybody over to this website. rdh has been updating it with more courses. One of the filters is Real - Yes/No. Once that has more courses and the user ratings are working there won't be much of a need for individual spreadsheets,.

Who's goal is that? Personally I'd prefer to see the course listed only once with it's various yardages, which once again only further supports the ultimate need for multiple tees and pins, then courses could be published once then updated to newer versions over time.

It does look like a good site that Rdh has started, but I wonder if a tab on this site linked to the HB Studios forum might be easier for people to find.

The course site was created by protee. They set me up to start populating it, so I've been plugging away at it slowly. I generally leave the rating unpopulated...not sure on the best way to come up with ratings. Everyone has different criteria.

I really hope hb will restructure things to allow multiple tees/pins in course definitions. Right now each variation has to be listed separately as each one has a different name. If we just had the course listed once and then s breakdown of the different tee lengths, you'd struggle to find them if you didn't know the exact names.

I see, that's good that they had you set it up it's greatly needed, obviously I missed it, not knowing that it was there. I agree 100% on the names and tees and pins, it's literally like the wild west out there right now, one thing that could be done is to list the main name of the course, then have another area that had all the various tees listed, In a spreadsheet I would do this with 4 or 5 columns, I'd show only the Sunday tees and not the Thursday to Saturday tees where that was the case, for example

TCG Course name, Real name, Designer, AKA. Rating, yardage, yardage, yardage, yardage

Magnolia National, Augusta National, Craig LeVasseur, theClv24, 9.5, 7296, 6769, 6434, 6104

I'll get the ones at the top of this thread added...are those the exact names?

Cklguy - the problem with your suggested structure is still the fact that there's a different name for every course/tee combination and HB doesn't show the length when browsing the course list. So, in the magnolia example, you wouldn't know what name the 7296 yard version has versus the 6104 yard version...you'd have to select each course by name to see the length.

I can add the 6769 yard and 6434 yard versions of magnolia...do you know the names those were created under?
