  • ProTee Course Database

I've been continuing to populate the online database of protee-suitable courses at http://tgccloud.com/courses/GolfCourses_view.php. Some of the newer ones won't work until the next update is rolled out to the simulator edition, but I just wanted to make sure people are aware of the database and using it. If you know of any courses that play well on the simulator that aren't listed, let me know.

I've primarily been logging courses that are a shorter length or modified for ProTee. For the elite golfers among us (I am not one) they can just use the HB forum and search tools in TGC to play any of the courses whether they are 7000 yards or more. For the rest of us that look for shorter courses or easier/more playable courses, hopefully the database helps out there.

rdh, are you adding courses that you know have been added to the console server which might not yet be in the ProTee database? Yesterday I searched for both Coeur D' Alene and RollingRock Everblades and neither one came up. For Coeur D' Alene I did find some of the regular courses (including the new Redux course) but I didn't see any ones for ProTee. For RollingRock I didn't see any courses show up.

I know from the HB Studios forums that those courses will eventually show as they seem to have been submitted but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Again, it might be that you are adding courses to your online database for upcoming courses that might not have shown yet in the ProTee server.

        Thanks.

Yes, i'm updating it as I see courses released on the HB forums. That way I don't build up a big list offline that I need to post when the database is synced. I've suggested an approach to ProTee that would enable us to search within the software for courses, but I don't know what will be decided on that. For now, you could look at filtering the database for all courses where the "Date Added" is prior to the last course sync (I forget what that was though) to get a list of only courses that should be available currently.

I am new to this as I have just gotten my protee and have been playing primarity protee courses, though I have only had time to play about 20 holes on various courses. When you say protee suitable is that to mean any course that comes up in a search, say TPC san antonio, cant be played on protee? I know this is/was a video game also and I was hoping when I got TGC with my ProTeee and it advertized all the courses, I would be able to play them all on my simulator. I think I read into some of these posts that some courses are next to impossible to play on protee because of the yardages and I get that.
Also, could somebody point me to a good quick reference guide on manuevering views and aim during game play? I have been searching for an hour and just see old posts on it.
            Thanks.

All courses made for any platform are available for play on your TGC/Protee sim. Suitable for simulation courses are considered those that "mortals" can play. I play many courses that are over 7000 yards, but I stay away from the really really long courses or those that are fictional ridiculous ones with 10 yard wide fairways.

There are many "protee" courses, or courses that were adjusted specifically with simulation use in mind, available if you search for Protee in the TGC course finder. Many real life courses too, with different length of play. I still haven't gotten all the way through all the Protee specific courses in TGC.

So yes, you can play any course that you see on the TGC course finder list, it's just that you may be playing Augusta from 7,400 yards instead of something more reasonable. Or you're a long hitter and that's what you're looking for. Either way, it's available.

Every course will work - you'll be fine there. The purpose of the database is for the point you make at the end of the first paragraph...that some courses are a nightmare to play either because they are too long (maybe you hit the ball far enough to play a 7400 yard course...but I don't!) or they may be exceedingly difficult (super tight fairways, huge breaks on greens that make putting unplayable). Or...they may just be garbage. Keep in mind there are tens of thousands of courses that were created by someone somewhere using the function in TGC to "auto generate" a course. No thought given to properly laying out a playable golf course...just let the game generate something and post it. Then there are people who create all sorts of wonky stuff...500 foot drops and playing over top of vehicles and buildings...just garbage.

So...the purpose of the database is to have a list of courses that are generally pretty solid from a quality standpoint, and that are generally at a playable length. The one thing that's lacking right now are many listings for longer courses...for those of you lucky enough to drive the ball 300+ yards, a lot of what has been logged (by me so far) in the database will be too short.

TGC newbee. Some courses I want to play gives me message "no scorecard saved" and unable to get into course. Also how do you get into driving range? Previously I found thread on this forum or perhaps another forum of a list of recommended TGC courses. Anyone know where this is located? I don't have Protee, only TGC. Kudos to Protee Support with assist in downloading software - excellent!

I haven't seen that error myself so I can't help you there. The link to the course database is in the posting at the top of this thread. The list also includes some ranges (names starting with "ProTee Edge"). Hope that helps!

You can also keep an eye on the HB studios forum at http://www.hb-studios.com/forum/index.php. There are frequent new course announcements there and tons of old posts to go through.

Is there a list of courses on the TGC that are somewhat easy to play?? Some of the course I've played so far are so unfair it's not even fun.. the only course that I've found so far that's actually fun to play is the st Andrews old course copy. It's wide-open and fun.. Any more out there.. ??

Sunshine golf club 9 hole 3477 yards. Kind of long but wide open and flattish greens, wide open. I used this last night working on club distances. I will get you a few more later.

Again, check out the protee course database. For the most part the courses there should be good to play on simulators...generally because of the length and also a lot of them were tweaked a bit to play easier (flatter greens, etc.). Having said that, there is still a wide variation in difficulty (Pebble beach is always a challenge!). Any of the "Scarpacci" courses (protee versions) are good bets as he tends to create fairly open landing areas off the tee. There are others like Balor's Forest that were specifically created for the simulator. The only problem is that a lot of them won't show up until ProTee releases the January update and does a course sync.

Just purchased TGC for GC2. Trying to sort through courses. I have reviewed the comprehensive simulator friendly list database populated by rdh. It appeared the "protee" courses use red chain where as the "TGC" courses are more refined and constructed with a different programming interface. I have heard comparisons - Volkswagen v Porsche.

Question: Are the "protee" courses always designated with protee in name (i.e. Augusta protee). Where as the "TGC" courses do not have protee in their name (i.e. Augusta).

I am trying to play the most authentic courses and from reviewing the forums the ones I am looking for would be the NON- red chain courses, i.e. The golf Club courses.
                              Thanks
