  • TGC w/ GC2 driver issues

I am pretty sure this has been brought up before but I don't recall the outcome. I've had several drives lately that have low backspin numbers on my GC2... roughly 1600-1800 I believe. Not quite a snap hook but certainly at least a shot with too much draw on it. The GC2 spits out (and these are approximations) carry numbers of 180-200 yards on these shots. Yet on TGC the shot ends up carrying only 120 or so - a huge difference. It's kind of a pain because I have to rewind the shot... only to have it happen again. Did someone say it's something with the algorithm on these type of shots (driver shots with not enough backspin)? Is this going to be addressed/fixed or is it something we are stuck with. Not a major hassle... just wondering. Thanks!

Yeah, I see those occasionally too. Usually with a rather large tilt angle. I'm questioning the GC2 to TGC algorithm as a whole. Not just with drivers. Everything! It's close but occasionally things are just off. It's tough to quantify it though. Let me put it this way. When I played ProTee with the GC2 I never really questioned things. With TGC I'm doing it all the time. Things just seem off and I can't really put my finger on what....

You are correct but it's a big miss hit that is a low low hook with low spin. It's happened to me like 4 times ever but TGC makes it pretty short.

I do think work is needed on the algorithms in TGC. The majority of shots are just fine, but I also get shots here and there that are way off. Like you mmlincon, I never seemed to have those with the old red chain software...unless my device had an incorrect reading.

Like what RDH? I've only questioned the low spin hook. It falls out of the sky like a shot duck. Plus, IRL it would roll forever. Every other shot for me makes sense based on elevations and the GC2 read out. I'm curious what others are experiencing.

Exactly. Low, low hook with low spin. I lose way, way too much yardage... like 60 yards or so.

Correction for these low spin shots is being done.

That is great news. In my opinion, the GC2 with TGC is awesome. Accuracy is spot on.... except for these type of shots. Hope it's soon.

Will that be part of the January update bubba?

I think just after the Jan update.

I encountered the same problem with 2 or 3 drives today. GC2 showed carry of 210yds and shot was going 120 yards on a flat hole. The ball flight on TGC looked like a looping forehand topspin in table tennis!

So glad I found this thread. I finally got a GC2 and played the first 2 rounds of Q school tonight. This type of shot happened almost every driver shot and most of my 3 woods. I think a lot of it was I felt like I was subconsciously pulling away since I'm not used to swinging indoors. Once I started getting more comfortable, it was happening less.

Still though, very frustrating to have a 120 yard carry over water that you don't make even though GC2 is displaying 230+. I didn't do any rewind on those shots since I know they aren't great shots, so it kinda seems weird to keep rewinding til you get a great strike. Needless to say, this was 2 of my worst rounds in a long time. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

What are the numbers on the GC2? It's happened to me where the spin is so low it even shows low carry on my GC2. Ie, 150 ball speed, 900 spin, 14 degrees la, GC2 shows 190 carry. 1200 spin shows 250 carry but falls out of the sky. I know the ball will nose dive in real life but I wonder at what spin.

The low spin issue apparently is being addressed.

It's tough it seems, to quantify at what point it should nose dive. My brain is telling me it's not X amount of spin = nose dive, but rather should be a gradual lack of carry as ball speed/spin is lower.

I played some more this morning and took a couple screenshots. This was pulled a bit, but didn't feel terrible. You can see the discrepancy between GC2 and TGC. 80 yard difference in carry. These are shots with a 3 wood. Edit: saw that the screenshot numbers are unreadably blurry, not sure why. They show up clear on my phone. Summary: spin, speed, and launch match GC2. Spin axis: 179.7 degrees. Distance 148 yards (113 carry, 14 bounce, 20 roll)
