  • Updates to the Protee TGC Sim Course Designer (GNCD)?

    Hi,

The TGC Simulator is being actively updated by Protee beyond what the HB console game version does. This is a very good thing!

I'm wondering if the same is being done for the GNCD? Once TGC matures the ultimate success of TGC will be based on the quality of its courses (especially compared to any competition).

I'm not a designer but as a user it seems the GNCD has some serious weaknesses affecting TGC simulation. Things like the ability to set multiple tees/pins, create custom objects, more tree options and ability to size/rotate/morph them as desired, variation in textures and objects, more believable rough and cut lines, ability to import image and terrain height data etc.

Also as our best designers mature they may become frustrated by these limitations and leave TGC for more capable design environments where they can better implement their ideas.

HB does a lot of things to maintain compatibility with consoles (ie lowest common denominator for a $30 game). But we've paid $1000 for a special version known as the Protee TGC Simulator and it is rightfully evolving into a real simulator not limited by a console game. I'm just thinking the same vision needs to be applied to the Protee TGC Course Designer with a plan to get it into the hands of our best TGC designers who are trying to make awesome replica courses for the Protee TGC Sim.

I don't think we'll see that happen, but i'd be all for it. The challenge is if they lift designer limitations for the simulator edition (example...allow loading of custom objects), we'd still need to get designers to use this edition instead of the steam/console version. Most of the designers want to create courses for play first/foremost on steam/consoles, and then they tweak them for ProTee. I don't see them spending a ton of time developing courses in the simulator edition when they won't be able to play those courses themselves (most of the best designers don't have simulators themselves).

I'd like to see some of these limitations removed, but the way it's done will need to be given some thought...it's a tough one.

      I see, thanks.

Well the the fundamental point is the GNCD limitations need to be addressed, not just TGC game play issues. Hopefully something can be done. Maybe most of these limitations can be removed even for consoles.

But if some simply can't be made to work with consoles then a "Limited Edition" mode that only works for Steam/Protee users doesn't sound too bad. It might be a change in thinking to focus on Steam/Sim users but things change in life.

Yea that would be nice to see. Not sure if its possible to implement all that stuff for the console versions or not but don't see why they wouldn't want to put it in the PC/protee versions. PC games in general are usually more extensive and have more capabilities then console do anyway for as long as both have been out it seems. I know they want to try to keep it similar across all platforms and I know this doesnt apply to everyone as there are amazing designers working on the ps4 as well, but in general, most gamers I believe know that if you want to take your gaming to the next level you usually have to get a nice PC and start getting into PC games or PC versions (of most games) to get better graphics and more features (even to the point of maybe someone modding the game to change textures and pretty much whatever they can come up with). I personally have it on PS4 and haven't bought it on steam because never really felt the need to. But if I was a crazy good designer like these guys are I would have no real issues with moving over to PC if I wanted to take advantage of more features if it was available there.

If im not mistaken, steam and console all publish together and no update is needed to get the courses right away, so that wouldn't be an issues. I know there is the cost factor of some of these designers maybe not wanting to buy a nice PC to just use this game, but still don't think that should limit what the PC versions can do if its possible.

That would be great if the steam and simulator versions could move forward in this way. I do know that on consoles Microsoft and Sony won't allow custom objects to be uploaded due to concerns around obscene stuff. I think any change in this structure will likely only come as part of a "TGC 2" as it will be a big fundamental change.
