  • New Lidar Course: Bay Harbor Golf Club - Links/Quarry

All, just completed Bay Harbor Golf Club - Links/Quarry Course. Published as: BayHarbor Links/Quarry-L

Lidar was used for the course elevation. I did include 5 sets of tees which ranges in length from 6826 yards down to 4205 yards. I suggest you turn on the wind and enjoy what's known as the Pebble Beach of the Midwest. The cliffs along Lake Michigan are beautiful and this course sits right along the water.

Taking its lead from the dramatic courses that hug Ireland's North Atlantic coastline, The Links is situated on the beautiful Lake Michigan shore, with miles of uninterrupted views up and down the lakefront. Accented by towering bluffs and windblown dunes, The Links 9 demonstrates Arthur Hills design at its finest, combining the course's unique topography with the native environment to achieve golf's greatest promise as both a sport - and a lifestyle.

The Quarry epitomizes Arthur Hills' unique ability to leverage existing terrain in the creation of something distinctive - and spectacular. Located in and around the remains of a massive shale quarry, this one-of-a-kind course claims some of the golfing world's most dramatic features, from 40-foot gorges and stone cliffs to natural ponds and a gentle waterfall. But beyond the scenery, The Quarry is golf at its finest - rewarding well-planned tee shots, and approaches that hit their spots.

Here is something you don't see everyday. I finished this course today and published it. On my first time playing it as a published course, I got a hole in one on the 4th hole!!

Thanks for adding. 4 of us made the road trip and played it a few years ago.

That course looks stunning, do they require carts to play? I visited Grand Traverse area and Sleeping Bear dunes a few years ago. This looks like it's in the same area, or close to it...

I don't remember. We took carts.

Amazing delta1274 - how long did that take you to accomplish? You've done a fine job on the Lake and Bay area with the water, just curious how hard that was as someone did Jack's Harbor Shores Golf course (St. Joseph, Michigan) also on Lake Michigan, and they told me they could not get the Lake to look like anything other than a pond if it was on either the East, or West side of the layout? Did you have that problem?

It took a few months to complete. I wanted to try and get it close to the real course. Definitely challenging with the water and the high numbers of trees, grasses, rocks, etc. I used up the entire object meter. The planting plus the outdoor golf season pushed it back. For the coast, I played around with Chad’s lidar tool by shifting the course. After 10 or so tries I got that figured out. I did have to use the Highland theme to get the water right.

You did a great job delta1274 - thanks for the tip regarding the water/theme. Is it possible to change theme's at any time when designing? I think I'm going to make a try at creating Lake Michigan like that with the Harbor Shores course...

Yes, you can change themes at any time. I do it all the time trying to get the look I want.

Outstanding, really looking forward to playing this. Played it again last year in the fall and it’s an amazing course with great views.
