  • The Seabee Golf Club

Real Course Name: The Seabee Golf Club at Port Hueneme
Game Course Name: Seabee GC, CA (L)

I've been slowly working on this course since late last winter, playing it over the summer, and I think I'm finally happy with it. The course itself is not fancy, or long, or difficult. It's just a simple course for the Sailors and Seabees on Naval Base Ventura County (and others).

I was stationed there in the early 2000's, and got to play it often. That was one reason I wanted to recreate it. The other is that the back 9 is now gone. Technically, Hole 18 became Hole 9, and the old 9 through 17 is no longer maintained or allowed to be played. At least they've kept something instead of shuttering the whole course. The golf course on the Seabee base in Gulfport, MS is loooooong gone. So much so that I don't think I can recreate that one; and I never got to play it while I was stationed close by, so I have no basis to work off of from memory.

Data on this course was a little difficult to find, especially since it's been reduced to 9 holes. I went looking through old mementos and found the one scorecard I kept. As you can see I was still hunting to break 100 at the time. I actually shot 100 on this course twice, but never broke it. I can still vaguely remember the missed putts that would have meant the difference. Ha ha.

I tried something different while building this course that I hadn't done before... I kept a log book. After doing Red Sky Ranch Norman, I was interested in knowing exactly how much time I actually spent on these courses. I estimated that I spent around 160-180 hours on RSR Norman, though I can't confirm that. For those that might also be interested, I thought I would share my findings.

So I hope this course might be a fun run down memory lane for someone else besides me. Or maybe you are from the area and always wondered what the course was like? Perhaps you'd just like to play an easy, flat course... Well, I hope you enjoy.

    Fair winds, and following seas.
Working...
