  • TGC 2019 Controller or Touch Screen Monitor

Looking for input on the floor mounted TGC 2019 controller linked below. Anyone use it? Interested to understand how useful/playable it is with the software. Functional with a hitting mat?

Or is anyone using a particular touch screen monitor to interface with the software when playing?

Do you have a wall mounted monitor for the workstation running the software? Then something else near the hitting tee to interact with the game (iPad).

Open to any suggestions that work for you. Thanks!

I made my own floor control box and it was super easy. It works very well with TGC2019, no issues at all.

    1. Purchased an ABS plastic box from Amazon ($19.99 CAD) - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B083BVX19J
    2. Purchased an arcade button kit from Amazon ($32.99 CAD) - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MR6JKMS
    3. Had a decal made to cover the top of the box with button labels ($12 CAD)
    4. Drilled 1-1/8" holes in the box to insert arcade buttons
    5. Wired everything inside the box and ran the USB cable outside the box
    6. Used JoytoKey software to program all buttons, which is super simple https://joytokey.net/en/

      Hey Jay.

I bought all the same parts as you from Amazon and wired it all up. All the buttons seem to be working in a text editor, but when using it with TGC, the scout command (Q), does the scout and then brings up the Group menu in TGC.

I have a feeling it's some configuration in JoyToKey but I don't see where it's sending these extra commands.

      Any ideas?

devildog1205 Thanks for asking this - I too had assumed a touchscreen computer but then saw the controller as an alternative. It certainly appears a cheaper alternative but wondering whether it is affected by windows & other software updates as a longer term durable option? Also, having no experience of sim play itself, how often do you need to interact with controller/touchscreen? I’m presuming interaction after every shot if playing a course but less so if practicing/range play....?

Having not played TGC before, I’m assuming interaction is needed just about every shot, to change aim point in the course. Hoping that you don’t have to change club every time to indicate which one your using per shot. But maybe there’s a THC user here that can confirm.
mi like the touch screen idea, but certainly don’t want to walk over to the monitor every shot. I’ve seen iPads used, that are on floor stands near the hitting mat. But a recessed box in the floor is a clean look if that’s a functional product. Will wait to see if anyone can provide a review of their experience with it.

I have the same question. I have been playing TGC 19 for only a couple weeks now. When do you use the controller? To move aiming left and right? Or other stuff?

I built a floor control box using Hubbahub32's guidance. In the end, I had a xbox 360 controller that worked wirelessly better and was faster for me to get to the inputs I wanted. So while I have both, the xbox controller gets more use.

I use it multiple times every hole. I use the scout key pretty much every shot and the arrow keys as I draw certain clubs so I aim a bit right or I might aim left depending on the shot I am trying to hit. Use the arrow keys a lot on the greens when putting (pretty much every putt). I use the overhead map view 10+ times/round to see distances to bunkers, front of green, etc. Club selection is already made but I do change it quite often. For example, if you are in a fairway bunker you will get Sand Wedge selected every time. Or deep rough a gap wedge. You need to be changing clubs a lot to understand your landing area.

The floor control box is a huge time saver from walking over to my computer between every shot. It's much easier to use my club to tap the buttons on the control box and look at my screen.

Any chance you have a picture of it? Seems pretty straightforward, but curious how you set it up!

intrinsic can you please share details how you got this set up? If set up with Windows is simple enough, I would rather buy a new xbox controller than build one as it is likely to be easily available and I don’t need to worry about wireless vs wired custom controller.

I built a controller too and love it. It was super cheap to build and took an afternoon. Happy to help if people have questions.

I built a floor controller similar to many, but abandoned it by switching to VoiceAttack.

A $20 microphone and 30 minutes to set up the commands/words you want to use, and it works flawlessly.

there’s at least one thread about it here. Good luck!

It's pretty simple actually as long as you have bluetooth on your PC

One MAJOR point to note is that you need to use/buy the right Xbox One controller that uses Windows compatible bluetooth. Here's an article that covers it

Otherwise, you have to buy a USB receiver for xbox controllers.

Do you have the ability to assign each button/joystick specific functions, or you get what you get?

Sort of. In the end, TGC2019 is based on a Xbox game and the controls that pop-up by default are the same. You can go into the settings and assign the options if you wish (I believe).

Here’s mine. I haven’t covered/painted it. Still debating paint vs turf scrap. I had scrap MDF which I made a box out of, drilled the holes, and picked the buttons and controller on Amazon. I used extra thermostat wire I had to wire it. I used a label maker and put stickers on the buttons. I did a Kevin McCallister “Wow, it worked!” When I plugged it in with no problems.

This is helpful, thanks. Dumb question: does it matter which club you select in TGC? If you hit a 3 wood with SW selected will it fly different than if 3 wood was selected?

Club selection does not matter. The only thing it matters for is if you care about your archived history of shots. Every shot you hit in TGC is stored in an archive so you can go back to see all of the shot data and it will list the club that was selected for each particular shot. If you don't care about that stuff (I think very few people do) then it doesn't matter at all.

Changing the club is only needed for a few reasons
                      1. Putting on fringe. If not tgc thinks you will be using a wedge
                      2. Club boost. If you boost your driver you will need to change club to driver.
                      3. If you want to keep stats on your clubs

                  • #15
I use one of these , small enough to fit in the pocket and if used with auto hot keys you can remap keys to fit TGC

Using the small joystick you can press up to scout camera. Down changes club and left right for aiming. One of the buttons changes view on the green, one is the S key and one does the overhead view. With those keys mapped I have most things covered control wise.
