  • Driver backspin extremely low?

Does anyone else have issues with driver backspin numbers being extremely low on QED? I see more than a fair share of occurrences where the backspin is only 500-800 or so, which I don't believe to be accurate. That, in turn, affects the flight profile obviously. Just wondering if I'm the only seeing numbers like that.

I could be wrong, but I believe those numbers are representative of mis-reads. You may need to re-calibrate.

I didn't think they were in italics... but maybe I'm mistaken. I will double check next time it happens.

I get that sometimes if I'm trying to swing out of my shoes and drop kick the ball, but that's probably accurate since the drop kick makes me hit up on the ball way too much. Otherwise I don't think I've seen that, at least since the patch fixed the 888 no read issue. You can watch the close up replay of the ball and see if it's tracking the dots/spin correctly if you're unsure whether it's accurate.

Are you using the Korean balls or the Bridgestone ones?

The bridgestones. It usually happens on solid hits (usually 165 mph+) with low launch angles (11-12 degrees maybe?). I will have to try and narrow it down a little more. It seems to be happening more frequently the last couple of days.

I’ve suddenly started getting those occasionally. Same low launch when it happens, or lower (9?). For the first time, I saw a negative spin number pop up... “-55” or something close. That caught my attention, as it was not a topped ball or anything I could figure out.

Hope this isn’t a trend with the equipment/software updates.

Interesting, I'm happy if I can just break 150 mph on a drive so maybe it only happens with higher speeds.

FWIW I can get them low on the gc2 as well, and they are usually poorly struck shots and most of the time duck hooks

I would do the foot spray trick and see if you are making contact high on the face. I get the same issue and when I do this method I always discover it's the user not the equipment.

This usually happens when you roll your hands over and deloft the club, almost hitting the ball with very little VLA. It's also possible if you hit up on it almost perfectly in line with the loft on your driver. It's like a knuckle ball in baseball.

Any indoor simulator will struggle with these ultra low spinning shots. If you watch the ball rotating in Ignite when you get ultra low spin, the dots almost don't even move in the capture. Essentially less samples to read the true spin,1 frame or pixel in the image analysis can very the spin a lot. This is the case with uneekor, gc2, or any LM. Even radar based systems. Radar systems outside can track the entire ball flight to get the true spin.

Here are a couple of pictures of it. I was wondering if what shwag33 was saying about the less frames to actually read the spin might be an issue. There was very little dot rotation in Ignite before the ball exited the frame.

Its not that there's technically less frames, It's just that since there's so little movement of the ball the accuracy decreases. Most likely these shots are all very low spinning shots at least in the ball park of what it's reporting.
