  • Lounge space behind QED hitting area

Hi everyone. I am in the mid-stages of planning a shed build for a sim. I preemptively purchased a Uneekor QED before the price hike Jan 1st in hopes the plan comes to fruition.
My concern is room depth. The drawings done up for the shed given land restrictions on site will give me an interior space of 24.5' deep x 17' wide x 12' ceilings. I am very happy with the width and ceiling height but concerned that 24.5' depth will be tight to accommodate the hitting area with enough room behind it for a bar table and stools/ golf bags etc and people comfortably far enough behind the swing clubs.
From your experience, how much depth with a comfortable space behind a swinging driver does the hitting area take up (including the 1' space behind the screen)? I'm guessing I might only have 6' or so left behind it for a table/stools, people and bags?
    Thx

You may want to go with a bar style either front or back to save on space. That being said, my simulator is in my living room with 17 feet of space. Backswings with the driver come about to the base of the recliners, which would be 13 feet from the hitting wall.

Where did you get the club racks you're using? I have something similar but need another one and like the look of yours. Can you tell me where to get them please?

I'm in a 3rd stall garage and my room is roughly 21' deep x 14'3" wide. I have 1 foot behind the screen and hit from about 8 feet away. I have two tall top tables and 4 chairs back there with plenty of space. No concern at all about hitting the tables, but you would not want someone attempting to walk between the tables and the hitting area. 24 feet will be more than enough space behind the hitting area. Everyone's bags can go on the side walls directly behind the hitting area to free up some space.

This comment isn't so much about lounge space as it is positioning things within your lounge space. If you plan on having a rear swing camera make sure you've planned on where and how you are going to mount the camera. Most swing cameras need to be 5 to 7 feet directly behind the player.

It went up $1350 in Canada, and I think $1000 in the US

I have a very similar space to yours at 22.5' deep, 11' ceilings, and ~15' wide. Mine is in a garage so it's far from a finished space and my seating area is very simple with a mix of outdoor and folding chairs, but... it'll give you an idea how much space you'll have. I've included some information below so you can get a picture of what it will look like in a similar space.

        Key stats:
        • My screen is 1' from the back wall
        • My hitting mat starts at 9' from the screen, so the middle of the mat where the ball is actually struck from is ~11' from the screen
        • I have 3-4 chairs sitting against the back wall of the garage (in these pics, 2 chairs plus a camera tripod), directly behind the hitting position.
          • The front of these chairs is ~8' from the middle of the hitting area (where the ball is struck from)
        • When you are sitting in these chairs behind the hitting area, you are completely safe from being struck by a back swing, however, you feel like the club is passing in front of your face. It doesn't bother me at all any more, but for people sitting there for the first time, I notice them leaning back in their chair against the wall just to be sure. In reality, even worst case with a tall golfer, there's probably ~2' between the end of a driver swing and the chairs, so you do have to watch kids carefully to make sure someone doesn't stand up without thinking while a tall adult is hitting.
Re: my design, I think I could slide the hitting mat forward another foot or so, but that's as close as I'd want to stand to my screen, so if you're wanting to maximize lounge space behind you, this is definitely possible.

Pictures below to help understand what I'm describing above:

I think you should be good as long as you place the seating in the right place. This is my work in progress [switching out the tan fabric walls with black fabric and a few other tweaks] but my overall room size is 33' deep, 22' wide and 12' ceilings. The putting/golf area is 22' wide by 14' deep - we hit from around 10-1/2' and the screen sits 8" off the wall. The chairs are about 19 feet from the front wall and we have not had any issues... the only one that makes you cringe when sitting down are the two on the left side - the back swing arc for right handed golfers and so those are mostly used for watching movies. Hope this helps a bit.
