  • Uneekor Eye XO - Review & Issues From A New Owner - View/Refine Softwares

I purchased and installed my brand new Uneekor EYE XO about 3 weeks ago which came with the View software and I upgraded to Refine software. I owned and used Skytrak with E6 prior to this for about 1 year.

While I do have some initial concerns and issue with the launch monitor and software I would still buy it again, especially if I get my initial problems worked out.

    INSTALLATION:
    • Easy to install/mount. However, there are about only 9 small screws that hold the unit to your ceiling and there was nothing mentioned in the instructions about making sure you screw into a stud. I wasn't comfortable with a $10,000 launch monitor hanging from sheet rock by 9 small screws so I moved my unit an inch or two to make sure I had at least 3 screws hitting a stud, I'd recommend this for everyone. I may even go into my attic and add some in between studs myself so I can make the unit is where I want it and has all screws in studs.
    • Instructions are WEAK. There is no manual for the unit or the softwares and all I got was emailed directions and a link to these resources.
    • I also found this guide on another forum on here which is a Refine software guide (though it is also pretty weak)
    • The software installation instructions were decent (I'm fairly tech savy) but I also found myself needing to figure some things out on my own and some steps I couldn't even do, but in the end it still worked. I assume the instructions just need to be updated with the new software versions.
    MY OPINION:
    • On the whole when it works like it should, I really like the Eye XO. I've definitely had some issues (included below), but the slo-mo video playback of your swing and ball contact after your shot is amazing!!! This feature alone is why I went with the Eye XO over the GC Quad (well that and cost) and I'm glad I did.
    • Seeing a video of your club path and ball contact is WAY more helpful in my opinion than just a still image and club/ball data.
    • That being said I think they have a great start to a product but with the issue I've had thus far after 3 weeks and the current software I think they definitely have work and some polishing to do to make this product a no-brainer over the GC Quad/Hawk and others.
    • Accuracy: Overall I think the Eye XO is pretty solid for accuracy. With the exception of short carry distances which you can tweak/fix using elevation I'd say it seems pretty solid. Though with any launch monitor in this price range or less I feel like the worse you are at golf the tougher time the launch monitors have at being accurate.
    ISSUES:
Thus far after only 3 weeks I've two pretty frustrating issues.
    1. Carry distances are 5-15 yds short. In reading other forums it sounds like this is common. To fix it you have to increase elevation on whatever software you're using. I increased mine to 5,000 ft which is 4,150 ft higher than my actual elevation. You have to do this on each software separately (which no one tells you). For View software you use the AltitudeConfig app located in the EyeXO Sensor folder and for Refine you must press Tab on the main menu and use "1" as the password. (You can't find that info anywhere, support had to tell me that!).
    2. Ball detection issue. I'm still working on troubleshooting this but after 2.5 weeks of use my unit started to have difficulty detecting the ball upon placing it in the hit box. Initially this was not an issue. I'm assuming I eventually fix this issue so I can update my post or this thread once I do.
    SOFTWARES: Overall:
I spend most of my time in Refine because it has many more playing options, however due to the limitations of the video playback within Refine I find myself always running Refine and View at the same time. One monitor I use for Refine and mirroring to the projector and one monitor for the club data/video from View.

I think Uneekor is behind the times a little when it comes to software/technology. The user-friendliness, design, and usability needs work. It's also pretty limited in terms or features and options and I think more has to be done to open things up to allow users to play how they want rather than putting them in such a small box of minimal options. Installing the software is also done via USB rather than downloading online and once you purchase the Refine software you have to wait about a day or two before they email you a license key and that shocked me and frankly made me a little bit worried that this company was operating in 1999 still. However, everything still worked and I am happy on the whole. But software needs to add more options and usability improvements mostly in the Refine software.

    View:
    • View comes with the unit and gives you a driving range and al the ball and club data and well as standard data and the video playback of ball contact and a still image.
    • The best feature of this software is the ability to create separate windows for whatever data you want, without this I'm not sure I'd be even happy with my purchase. I do however wish that when you are looking at the video playback of your contact there was a loop video playback option. As if you miss the first initial playback you have to go to the computer and hit play again manually which is just kind of a hassle and slows things down.
    • I have two monitors (highly suggest) and whenever I play one screen is the normal shot view which mirrors to my projector and the second screen is the club data/video.
    • On the whole, the View software is pretty good. I have a few minor UX complaints but on the whole View works fine and as I said the video playback is awesome.
    Refine:
    • Overall: Refine seems like it must be the newer software as it is much less "refined" than View. My main complaint is with the club data and video playback is only shown very briefly after you hit. And if you want to see it again you have to go back to the computer pull up the menu then open the video playback screen and once this screen is up you can't do anything else. So you can't continue to play while having this view on a different monitor like you can with View software.
    • Issue/Bug: After you hit within the Refine software a small screen pops up with a video playback of your shot, however it is often not the correct shot and instead a previous shot at some point maybe even from a previous game/session. I also run View software at the same time so I'm not sure if this is a bug due to that or just a bug that always exists within Refine.
    • Courses (only 5 included):
      • Putting: Greens are crazy fast!!! I keep it on the slowest setting and still a 10 ft put goes about 30 ft. They should really have a more robust setting of 1-10 or something but even the slowest option is wayyyy too fast.
      • Roll distances seem to be pretty short as well. Average roll is maybe 6-9 yds. However, this isn't really a big deal.
      • Rough/Hazard Penalties: If you're not a fairway golfer the courses can be difficult. The penalties for rough, trees, rocks, and sand are pretty significant. Also, there is no way to turn the penalties off like you can on E6. Definitely would be a nice feature add though.
      • Gimmies: You can set putting gimmies but only from 1.5 ft to 6 ft. E6 gives you the ability to set 10 ft, 15ft, and more. I found that feature super useful when playing with large groups because it goes so much faster and I don't feel like simulator putting is that valuable anyway for improving. Giving you much more options for Gimmes/Conceding during putting is definitely something they should add.
      • Types of Play: There is only one play style for courses which is Stroke Play so not ideal for options playing with friends.
    • Short Game & Driving Range:
      • These game options or pretty sweet overall. I don't have too many complaints here. I just wish you create separate windows for the club data/video like you can in View software.
      • For the ranges you can do standard range or use approach shots or putting. I use the approach option quite a bit which I think is a really good feature. My only complaint here is for distance from the green you have to choose from predetermined 10 yd increments rather than selecting any distance you want like you can in Skytrak's software.
    HITTING MAT NOTE:
    • I'm using the Fiberbuilt 9x4, which I purchased because of elbow pain. The mat totally fixed my elbow pain so its great for that but I didn't like the brush/bristle option overall so I just purchased a Fiberbuilt replacement/retrofit option called DivotAction from Custom Design Golf and it is awesome! It has a lot of give and works much more like real life and doesn't cause elbow pain and hitting it fat doesn't kill the distance, highly recommend if you have the Fiiberbuilt mat or if your looking for a better mat. Just a bit of warning their website is horrible and you can't order online but if you call them and leave a message they'll take your order over the phone.

      UPDATE:

I contacted Uneekor Support on the Ball Detection Issue and they gave me the new ball detection algorithm to update in the EyeXO folder and that fixed the issue right away. Ball detection now is pretty much immediate and no more issues there.

I also have the Uneekor Eye XO and Fiberbuilt 9x4 hitting mat. The Custom Design Golf website is not very helpful when it comes to the DivotAction replacement/retrofit option. Do you just lift out the Fiberbuilt hitting section and drop in the DivotAction strip? Is it that seamless?
