  • Eye Mini Lite Users - Ball Speed and Clubhead Speed accuracy?

I am asking for Eye Mini Lite users to help me out - I use this unit a lot and have found (I believe) that the Clubhead speed and ball speed both register a bit low on the EML, which affects carry distance calculations. I recently spent time on a Trackman 4 and GCQuad, both indoors, and found that those two units provided me near identical numbers to each other (within 1 mph on both) averaging 83.8 and 84.0 on a 7i CH speed and with a ballspeed of 115.0 and 115.3 respectively. With the EML, those numbers are virtually unattainable with an average CH speed of 81.5 and a BS of 107.3. A flushed 7i only gets me in the area of 111-112 BS with the EML. With the GCQuad I had an average carry of 156.3 and with the Trackman 4 158.1. With the EML it was an average of 152.3. EML is using the View software and the Trackman used it's own proprietary software while the GCQuad used the Skytrak+ software (Golftec). These numbers are using the same ball - literally, the same ball I took with me and used on all sessions. Now I know these numbers are close, but the EML is consistently low on both as compared to the Trackman and GCQuad which are very close and I would say fairly identical. I tend to trust the higher priced units a bit more, especially the GCQuad. I know the EML used to overinflate the CH speed before they made updates, but I think now they may have overcorrected. I use GSPro with the EML and the GSPro will usually be about .4 to 1.2 yards over what the View Software calculates but it's basing this information on the measured data of the EML unit. As far as spin goes, the EML averaged about 5200, while the GCQuad averaged 6041 and the Trackman 6281 - so I know that comes into play, but not sure in what direction for the lower spin of the EML - regardless, the CHS/BS issue is what is most concerning to me. By the way, all of these numbers were hit within the same week.

    Unit/CHS/BS/CARRY
    GCQuad 83.8/115.0/156.3
    Trackman4 84.0/115.3/158.1
    EML 81.5/107.3/152.3

Do others feel that the EML is a little slow on the CHS and BS that results in a lower carry? For what it's worth, in normal conditions IRL, I can fly my 7i 155-158 without much of an issue so that's another reason to feel that the Quad/Trackman are more accurate..
Do others have an opinion or experience?

I would say it is a little low with View software. I find it bang on perfect what I would expect to see on the course using GSPro. Make sure your elevation is set to where you live in the EML. Gameday for a no go for me since I find it a full club short, very disappointing because the software and graphics are nice. You would think by now these algorithms would be and industry standard of sorts, but apparently not.

Thanks for your comments. Although the carry differences are in the end all I care about, it's that the EML consistently measures BS and CH speed slow that is the real problem. Since making that post, I compared my EML in View software to the original Skytrak that I still have. I was able to get them to read the same ball by setting the units close together and I compared ballspeed and shot shape to each other. Both showed near identical shot shapes which was great - but the BS was consistently slower on the EML (not comparing the CH Speed as the Skytrak does not measure that parameter, rather it takes its best guess so it's worthless) - but again the BS was slower and therefore the carry was shorter by on average about 4 yards with a well struck 7i (As compared to the Skytrak). In fact, the Skytrak was more in line with the GCQuad and Trackman and the EML when it comes to carry only. You mentioned the GSPro software - I too use that to compare the numbers, and gain anywhere from .4 to 1.2 yards of addl carry with GSPro, but it's using the BS and CH speed of the EML to calculate its numbers - so if the EML is measuring low, the GSPro numbers can't really be trusted either. I hope Uneekor provides an update to try and correct - If not, it can't be considered a true rival to the GC3 in the same general price level. If all you are really concerned about is shot shape and ballspeed (it may fail in other categories), then the original Skytrak is the ultimate bargain.
