  • Hillsbrook CC

I posted last week about one of the great new courses since the last server sync, Wayne Adams' Sawmill Creek. I had messaged another designer awhile back about his first course, Hillsbrook CC. Like Adams, Craig Sullivan was kind enough to convert his Hillsbrook into a ProTee / simulator-friendly version. And I have to say, first design or not, this course is amazing! I hold Dario Logan (Pilansburg, Logan Farm, Shawnee Creek) and Rich Banker (the Breakers, Gator Hole, Spartina) in high esteem for their ability to create fictional courses that feel like they could exist in real life. Craig Sullivan has joined this elite group in my opinion. Whereas some other fictional courses that have been shortened for ProTee might have odd forced carries, penalizing and obstructive tree placement, or other ways to punish someone who doesn't get it just right with the mouse or joystick, this one feels like a real-life designer figured out how to make the various hazards play fair for the forward tees as well as the back tees. It doesn't hurt that Sullivan's texture work and planting are very good, too!

My favorite holes are the par 4 5th and the par 3 7th. The tee shot on the 5th reminds me of the 10th at Sawgrass, doglegging slightly left with water down the same side. The 7th is a stunning little downhill par 3 with water protecting three sides of the green. If you're hesitant to try a fictional course, you're really missing out if you don't give this one a shot. Can't wait to see what Craig Sullivan comes up with next! Have fun!

Just played this, this is a really good course. Could be one to add to the tour.

Glad you played it! Hope Craig Sullivan comes back with more designs for TGC 2019. As far as I know, this was his only course for the original TGC. It's a great one, though!
