  • Desert Wells G. C. Thurs Pro Tee

Hi everyone just posted Desert Wells G. C. Thurs Pro Tee, firm and fast but fair.

Wow, looks awesome from the pictures! Is this protee version just a shorten version or a new design? I ask because this version wont be available to us until the next course sync and wanna give the full length one a go

Hi Ironstrokes, it's a brand new course, I have made a Pro Tee version which is shorter, this isn't an easy course because of the firm fairways and greens, they will hold short irons but longer irons you need to run onto the greens unless you guys can slow them down a bit, let me know if it's too tough, thanks

Do we know when the next course sync will be? I'm excited to play some of these courses.

Looks great! Only watched the first 9 holes as I want to go in fresh and surprised at the design for the second 9. Loving the layout, that long 2nd hole par 3 looks particularly fun to me.

Actually got a video I'm gonna post in a bit once it all renders and all. I'm a little pissed though, the recording actually cut off for me after the 16th hole so I played the last 2 but didn't get them on video. Just ended with a bogey and a par anyway. But wanted to post this one because I was commentating a bunch while I was playing (was kinda funny that I was still commentating to no one on the last 2 holes because I didn't realize the video cut off haha).

Another awesome track though. Some tight driving areas, but only on a few holes, so not gonna complain about that, actually liked the holes where you gotta think and place the drive more (even though my drives were very mediocre this round). Most holes had plenty enough fairway to feel comfortable hitting to though. I love the way you design your drivable par 4s too, gives a great risk reward for going for it.

The par 3s were awesome, the drop downs on some of them were really cool and looked great from the tee, my only issue with them was picking the right club (but that's on me). I was honestly getting a little excited about the first one that was 250 yards way downhill, hit a great 5 iron and was tracking right at the hole before it ran out of steam 10ft short.

It was again very fair and challenging at times. If your drives get too wayward you can definitely get into some trouble. I didn't look too closely at the layup areas on the drivable par 4 because I knew I could get there, but wasn't sure if there was a easy layup for the shorter hitters (I know I was carrying over the water and all) but I'll take another look at that on my next play on it.

Ultimately, it's definitely another course I'd highly recommend for everyone to try and going into my favorites. It was cool seeing your take on the desert course after playing several of your other designs. Me personally I still think I liked havasu falls a bit more, but the main reason for that is I'm not as big of a desert course guy as some, they were both fantastically designed and very playable for sim users as well.

And forgot about that short, 124 yard way downhill par 3 with some trouble in front and behind. That was probably the shot that had me most nervous, didn't want to throw away my round with a poor distance judgement with a sand wedge is my hand haha. Missed the green hole high to the left and was perfectly fine with that haha

Great stuff again and can't wait for the next installments!

Thanks Ironstrokes, obviously as a desert course it's going to play much tougher than a regular course, I feel the same as you that I'm not really a fan of desert courses so that's why I wanted to try and make it more interesting than many desert courses I've played, I hope I've captured a resort style feel to the course, I spent many hours getting the speed fast but getting the greens to hold mid to short irons, I hate not being rewarded for a good shot. I was especially pleased with the par 3's the long par 3 I must have played fifty times getting the right speed and firmness and putting the raised portion of the green in just the right spot to slow the iron shot down for the vast majority of players, and I know how you felt about the little par 3 I wanted a really short par 3 that would make you afraid to take the shot and standing on the tee I feel I achieved that 124 yards of pure dread haha, I look forward to your video, its a shame about the video cutting short but it was amusing imagining you giving a running commentary to no one haha, that's the type of thing that happens to me, many thanks again for taking the time to review the course and I'm in the early stages of a rural theme course so a bit more traditional for the next one, Havasu Falls is up there with Lochry Doon as my highest rated courses so I'm pleased with that, when tgc2 comes in next year I shall have to put a real waterfall into Havasu Falls, it should look spectacular, many thanks, Nigel

Here my video of my play through. The audio isnt great (probably because of the portable ac on behind me) but still can make out most of what im commenting on. And absolutely, liked the palm tree touch which did give it much more a resort feel. Great work with the greens after hearing how you made them! I felt that exact same thing that they were surprisingly receptive to even my mid iron shots. That really is brilliantly designed how you did that purposefully, it was so subtle that I would have never known the slopes were put in there by design to make it more receptive, that is actually very impressive.

I felt like I could have put up an even better round if my drives were a bit more accurate. My iron play was pretty damn solid for the most part other then a few stray shots. And if my short irons werent consistently like 5 yards long today I really could have been knocking down some flags.

My favorite shot of the round was probably the 4 iron out of the heavy rough from 203 and 20ft uphill onto the green on 13th because I wasnt expecting to be able to keep it on that green from that spot (even though it did land just short of the green) and had to hit is extra hard out of the rough with the 14% penalty for sim users out of heavy rough. So that shot was playing about 240 yards i think (with the uphill included) and a good 4 iron for me is usually about 220 carry. 3 iron was the club there but didnt think id get it high enough over the hill in front of me.

Again, I had a blast playing your design and will continue to do so in the future. These course feel like they could exist in real life and would be an awesome challenge to play and even simply see, they are always laid out in a way that is always very pleasing to the eye. Keep up the good work!

Also would like to mention to anyone who watches, I played the full length version here. I always like to give myself the full challenge first, bit of a masochist there I guess haha. I've played the first 9 of the protee version as well and is much more manageable, yet still a very solid challenge and that's probably the one I'd recommend most people to give a go first
