  • Help me design the ideal setup from scratch

I've been lurking for a while on here and I finally decided to jump right in. Love what I've seen on here and I'm ready to join the fun.

So I get to start from scratch. I will be having a contractor build a custom building in my backyard to house my simulator (think custom shed). The wife wants me to keep the building small enough that it doesn't dominate the whole yard but otherwise I'm free to design as I see fit.

The first major question on this journey is what are the dimensions of the new space? I'm thinking 11 ft ceilings but I have no idea how wide I need to make it. I think I'm going to get a studio that I'll build once and leave in place (Par2Pro or similar). Ultimately I'm leaning GC2 or the Quad (once some reviews come in) but I don't expect this build to be done before summer so I have a little time on that front. So now the question -

If designing from scratch, what dimensions would you recommend?

25 feet deep should leave plenty of room for a couch or two. Make sure you have all the wiring for speakers and the projector run ahead of time. That is much easier to do during construction and it is easy to just put wall plates on. If I were starting from scratch I would also consider adding some soundproofing depending on where the room is located. If it is going to be separated from bedrooms and living areas then that wouldn't matter though.
