  • Feedback Needed on 16x16x10(h)

    Background:

In the next week or two I need to make a decision on whether to spend the $$ to overdig the foundation on a 16'x16' addition to my existing home.

-- Requirements for the addition are primarily additional storage, but I am hoping I might be able to fit a decent golf sim in there too.

I am not all that concerned about which LM, Sim, etc just yet. But I need to make a decision on whether or not to spend $5k to make the 10' ceiling.

    Requirements.

    - Fit 4 golfers and/or 2 observers in room.... if done carefully. I know it will be tight.

There will be at least 2'x8' storage on the sides of the room.

I have already lurked here for about 8 hours and I know that there is a TON of information for me to tap. I think I *could* make a decision on this, but just *really* desire some expert feedback on my specific situation.

    See attachment.

    Thanks in advance.

Dig it out and use it yourself. However i think 16 x 16 is going to be tight for four guys. I am using a space that is 20x20 and it felt a little cramped with 3 guys.

Arg! I just see that it would be VERY beneficial to at least have one other person in the room and was really hoping I could fit four as long as there is a way to position all righties and stay out of the way of the swing.

Is 8' to screen definitively too close?

Depends on system, but 8' is not too close for ST or GC2. DOn't forget when those other people come, they have bags to hold their clubs plus whatever you have holding your's and that takes up some space. . Your screen/net will be about 1' off the wall and some can get it down a little more. Then 8' to the screen and you have 7' left behind the ball. Sounds like alot but when you're swinging driver, things close in rather quickly. Not saying it can't be done, it may just feel kind of tight with that many people.

Where the screen is on the upper floor, there is a 2' knock out (upper level).

I think I am going to change my design so that this knock out is not there. Rather, the foundation and bath above is 16x18. This would essentially give me 2' at the back of the room, which I feel much more comfortable with. If people hang out in the rear corners that extra 2 feet will help, I think. Benefit to the s.o. is that I think washer and drier in master closet, which is huge for both of us.

New layout attached. It will cost quite a bit more, but it seems like it would make the upstairs and basement MUCH more useful.

Try again on image w/ decent size.... crazy. Not sure why this one is coming out so small. Maybe .png will work better.

So..... this is what I ended up with on the interior size of the basement room... ~15'x15' floor space. 17'x15' ft room size. Ceiling height will be 10'.

From my limited research thus far, I would really like to manage a ProTee system. All the frequent people I play with are righty.

The 2' wide and 2.5' high stepout will become a place to sit.

              Comments, recommendations?

Very much appreciated. Foundation is in basement should be ready to build out in a month.

So how far off the wall do you plan to have your screen? How far does the ball to screen have to be for protee? You may be getting close to the stepout.

Well....i have seen on here where a guy ina small apartment manages to stop ball in 9.5cm. Whicch is under 5".

protee pointed me to thier standard drawing where tee looks to be 10 ft. I thing i might be able to do 9, but for tallerr players maybe 8.

anyone with protee and t location 8'
