Minimum Space Requirement for Skytrak

Hi All,

New to the forum and based in the UK.

Looking for an idea of the minimum space requirement i will need for a skytrak sim, as i'm looking to put in my garage.

I've seen their recommended spec, but that's too much for what i have and extending is not something i can do, but i can raise the height/lower the floor slightly.

I've got (at the minute) 8ft wide, 15ft long and 7ft 11" high, but i think i can get a bit more height.

It will only be used for right handers and i'm only 5ft 10.

Is it do-able or am i going to have to give up on the dream of a garage sim

I have 3m wide (9.8ft) and its already a big offset. Not sure I will go with less than 2.5m :-(
Best thing to do is to swing in your place and see if you have at least 50cm in front of your ball to put the skytrak

Do you plan to fix a projector ? That could be a prob too with that high.

That is pretty tight. You will be pretty close to the side wall, but the bigger issue is going to be the height. I would suggest standing on something at least an inch thick and then start taking swings and see what clubs you will be able to use.

I don't plan on having a projector, just a screen mounted on the wall facing me, as i have a spare 50" TV doing nothing.

The height isn't so much of a worry as i can raise the bottom chord of the roof truss (i'm a builder so that helps) - i've tried swinging at the moment at i hit whats there, but is there an acceptable minimum? - i'm not going to know until i start cutting, so would be trial and error, but if i had an idea of the dimension as a start it would be good.

I can't go to the 10ft they recommend as the roof wouldn't have a lot of support with the chord that high up.

I know i've got to change the door to get rid of the framework

If the height/length/width are too tight to do it proper justice i may have to come up with another plan, as i have the space to extend but can't due our planning laws in the UK as its on the property boundary line.

i'm in the UK and have my skytrak setup in my garage, its 2.6m wide, i have the skytrak about 10 cm from the side wall, that gives me enough space to comfortably hit a hybrid, but with the fairway and driver i would have to change my swing / follow through and thats something i don't want to do, so i hit my hybrid as my longest club.

i also have the skytrak and my hitting mat aiming slightly left so i'm not hitting the far right side of my impact screen.

Hi. I'm in sunny Scotland. One thing I would say; is don't give up, a net mat skytrak pc and TV setup is AMAZING. Even if that means giving up on driver which is the real killer for height and length.

Let's talk some minimums.

Width wise if you are not going for a projector; you only need enough room to swing. The more you get the more you can enjoy but minimum is enough to swing comfortably. 8feet sounds like enough. My setup is 3m wide and its plenty width for driver.

Length wise all you need is enough to swing and clear the back wall and net. Think about the depth of a standard hitting cage; its not that deep. I've got 4.8m which again is plenty for driver. I probably wouldn't recommend a lot shorter but you sound ok I'm that respect.

Height. Man I struggled with height. I'm 510/11 and have a decent normal swing. I've got 2.85 metres in height. Its plenty for me for irons; like loads. For rescueS woods and driver it is approaching the minimum I would say. Now let me be clear; I'm no where near hitting the roof on my through swing. I can swing freely and have gotten my ball speeds up to outdoor standards once used to it. I WONT hit the roof ever. But I'm not sure about taller friends or Friends with odd swings.

Your a builder; get as much height as you can safely get and see if t works for you. You might be surprised. If it doesn't for driver it should for the rest of the bag.

Don't give up though; no doubt this setup I'd a luxury but man does it pay off for someone who loves to practise or is short on time with family. The sim stuff is next level luxury but man its worth it.

I would honestly say now that I'm setup; I'd recommend an iron only setup over nothing.

appreciate it! Was just wary of starting something (cutting, strengthening etc) if it wasn't going to be anywhere near enough space - plus i'd be in loads of trouble with the Mrs!

I definately want to get something sorted, the range is 30mins in the wrong direction home from work, so want to work on it all at home as much as i can, as i love the practice/improvement element

i used a standard vesa wall mount for the monitor, and then ordered a hanging down arm the fits in between the vesa wall mount and the monitor

Nice. Those are the exact ones I have saved in my wish list on amazon - look like bargains to me when you see the price that some companies are asking you to fork out for something similar... In fact I like them even more now that I see them with a real picture. Do you have them on an articulated VESA mount of some kind - looks like it's sitting off the wall at a bit of an angle...?

Yeah just bought a wall mounted vesa 100 monitor arm, it goes pretty flush to the wall and can extend about 50cm out. The keyboard tray and bracket are pretty well made, bit fiddly to put together but well worth it.

So far so good, stood on 2 inch blocks and had a few swings, can swing up to 4 hybrid with the roof height I have already, not sure I will get away with driver due to the width but it's not the end of the world. Was tricky to judge on the follow through as there is a horizontal brace for the up and over door in the way that I would hit with every club so that needs sorting.

Next at job is to clear the roof and start to move stuff out of the way to see if I can cut sections and strengthen further up. Then sort out the door and move the lights about.

ive Also got to devise a way of having the net/screen on a track to pull round from the side wall, as I'll have to hit toward the door due to a freezer and electrics at the other end.
