Trackman 4 vs GC Quad comparison (part 2)

Welcome to my next episode...part 2 which is putting this time.

So this time around I compared the putting capability indoor (wish we should've done this on real putting area such as outdoor range).
But ultimately, Trackman didn't have club data (which they will release in the next update yay), and GC Quad didn't come with putting data (they will also come in the future update).

So the only data we were able to track were 2 parameters: Ball speed and Launch Angle (or Launch Direction).

In conclusion, there were really not that much different in ball speed of 0.2mph difference on average, but the launch angle seemed a little bit off. This time around, since Trackman has a camera that records where the ball is heading, I saw the actual ball movement and Trackman seemed spot on for that. So it's more likely to say that Trackman 4 was more accurate in Launch Angle/Direction data. But as I said earlier, keep in mind that this was indoor turf (which is very inconsistent, I was getting less than 80% roll percentage where I usually get 85~90% on outdoor putting range) and GC Quad didn't even have putting software.

All in all, the putting is not ready for both of them.



Note: I wanted to do a part 3,4 and more which would involve some outdoor test. However, my sales rep here was nice enough to let me know that they are not open to giving me a trial since I bought my Trackman used....(my version is indoor only) Very nice of him to motivate his customer to upgrade his stuff....I wanted to do more upgrades from him but now I'll rather want to talk to another rep. Too bad Trackman sales rep are tied to regions...So I should move to another region haha.

I guess the next thing we can do is some (still indoor) driver/7-iron test. As always thanks to my friend, legendsfan.

Did either of the units fail to read putts more often?

Both picked up every medium to long range putt. The TrackMan missed one or two short putts which I believe by default they aren't supposed to capture under 5ish feet. To do this right we need to putt outdoors on a real green as the putting surface at the facility we used isn't great.

GC Quad didn't miss any shots while Trackman did a few due to what legendsfan said above. The minimum requirement for Trackman is 6". Once both software that fully support putting come out, it's more likely that GC Quad would have an edge in reading and capturing more accurate putt due to being a camera system. One hope for Trackman is to track shorter distances, but because of the nature of the radar system I don't think it's gonna happen until the next iteration (Trackman even doesn't currently track very close chip shots either).
