  • GCQuad vs Trackman comparison video - Indoor questions

Watching this video raises questions for me as to if I'm doing myself a disservice taking lessons and training indoors on a Trackman 4. Up to this point I've used the Trackman numbers as gospel and shouldn't be challenged. I've been told it won't show a shot if it isn't sure of it and I've seen that in practice as on a TM3 5% of my shots don't register and less than that on a TM4. I recently bought a GCQuad and have barely used it to this point because I don't have a home setup yet as I'm looking to build something out. I have done some basic testing with the TM4 as a comparison but not nearly as extensive as this test.

I'm fine with slight differences as there are many assumptions these systems have to make but something as simple as ball flight should always be the same for two high end devices. In this video I see the TM4 showing a fade when the GCQuad shows a draw. That greatly concerns me as one of them is definitely wrong. I plan on doing more testing on the next couple weeks with a member on here that has a TM4. Anyone else have concerns with a TM4 for indoor use?

Interesting video. It's about what I'd expect. You can't go wrong with either. One is far better in doors and one is better out door.

Great video! Good to see how well the GCQ performs both indoor and outdoors.

Personally I think the video is suspect. I thought it was strange how he immediately questions the trackman's accuracy when he sees a discrepancy between the two devices. Especially considering he was testing the gcquad for the first time.

Also as I understand it TM4 measures club head data the same regardless of whether it is indoors or outdoors and the ball flight fit the club head data.

There is a conversation thread on that video where a guy is also questioning the results as well.

If you have access to both the GCQ and the TM4 I'd be very interested to see the results of any comparison testing you do.

In your WTF shot the ball spins off the screen and lands to the left. This indicates fade spin. So the trackman got it right (fade) and the quad got it wrong (draw). Why did you blame the trackman?

I thank you for the video. It was very well done. It's amazing you can spend 15-20 G and get different results. My thoughts are exactly as your conclusion.

To be clear I just stumbled upon the video and don't know the person who shot the video. In my limited experience testing these side by side they were fairly close with their numbers. The testing was indoors. I plan to do some tomorrow at an indoor facility to see if I come across any odd numbers. Outdoor testing is happening this Thursday with Leomode (member on this site) and he will be posting the results of GCQuad vs TM4. I doubt we'll do any video but we will definitely post a spreadsheet of the shots taken. I'd hate for the members here to see my swing as it's hideous.

Why not do a video? Any iPhone made in the last 5 years is capable of great video.

My only observations from the video are that the TM is not set up at the same level as his hitting surface (can't say if it's right or not without some better shots of his hitting platform) . While the hitting surface is definitely raised in the video (he steps Down a little at one point and you can also see that their is a platform on the desk that is about three inches or so high) which could cause some issues indoors especially when he is only getting less than ten feet I believe it was of ball flight. A good video though.

This is in line with my findings aswell. Indoors TM shows me hitting mostly straight shots when in reality i draw/hook everything.
Test to hit a heel shot with driver and TM will show a low hook everytime, when in reality this shot always fades for me.

Why does the guy hitting the balls have his face wrapped up like a mummy? lol. Besides, who can watch a 32 minute video on launch monitors?

Because its Danny Willett and theyre trying to hide the fact.
Also someone spending the cash on a GCQ would probably watch a 32 min video on the product.
I found the video very imformative and quicker than reading all the "fs and buts" on this forum
                            lol

Danny willett is built like a stick insect- that aint him :-D

PS having had shots on both TM4 and GCQ I am definitely in the GCQ camp. Being in Scotland a lot of our practice has to happen indoors and TM4 is not very good indoors (especially with driver).

My bad shot with driver is a heel fade on TM4 EVERY single shot had me low pull hooking it- it simply wasn't the real shot I was hitting
