  • GC2 vs Flighscope Xi Tour Indoor Comparison

    Hey everyone,

Having owned the Flightscope Xi Tour now and using my indoor dedicated set up on short indoor mode for a few months, I decided to stop in to the local Golf Galaxy and use their GC2 set up to compare 7 iron numbers. Early this morning I went down to hit some balls in a scoring zone session on my Flightscope Xi Tour. I was definitely tight and not warmed up, but I made sure I hit enough shots to get a decent average.

Around noon today I stopped into the local Golf Galaxy and brought the same 7 iron to get a comparison. Luckily it wasn't too busy and no one was getting fitted. So I had time to play around a bit and hit plenty of shots.

I was always under the impression that indoors my flightscope's spin was a little low based on what I've read. Attached are the 2 sets of numbers. I would say based on the numbers and knowing how far I hit the ball, the Flighscope is a tad more accurate because I know I consistently spin my 7 iron outside closer to 7,000 rpm's. But all in all, very close.

If you don't feel like sorting through the numbers. Here are the averages of the data I was more concerned about. The rest of the data is in the pictures.

    Ball Speed ----- Xi Tour - 118 / GC2 - 121.3
    Carry - ------ ---- Xi Tour - 171 / GC2 - 172
    Total Distance - Xi Tour - 178 / GC2 - 184
    Backspin ------- Xi Tour - 6040 / GC2 - 5524

I was a bit more loose at Golf Galaxy being that I already swung in the morning and I had gone through half of my day and generally felt more warmed up. So take those for what their worth.

Thanks for taking the effort and sharing.

How close does your own mat match what you were hitting off in the store? That can effect the actual spin. The less the club is allowed to move downward at impact, the lower the spin could be. That is, I'm assuming you hit the ball right off the mat and not tee'd up? Not suggesting you go back and do it again, but if there is a next time, you might do the test with the ball tee'd up a little. Or maybe even bring the Flightscope into the store with you.

Good question. I have a Country Club Elite Mat in my sim room. I hit off what seemed to be fairly similar, but definitely not the same at Golf Galaxy. If I find some time I'd be happy to do another test off of a tee with an iron and with the same driver.

A buddy of mine is a the main local Taylormade rep and has the indoor/outdoor Trackman. Some time soon we are planning to have him come over and do a side by side of my Flightscope and his trackman indoors, and then outdoors during the summer.

Another thing I'm doing, which I'm sure people would be less interested about is comparing everything to Full Swing Golf. A simulator bar opened up near my home and has 3 higher Full Swing Golf set ups. We are planning on going over there and bringing my Flightscope to compare. I've hit there twice now and the bay I've hit in has a goofy left/draw bias.

Regarding GC2, I would love to get one in my sim room to do an exact side to side comparison. More to come.....

Aw that’s a little too far for me to compare your device. I live in So.cal and thus was wondering if we should compare our machines.
