  • Projector Help

So I am in the process of building my sim... I hung my projector and it looks ok... however i have two issues.
    1. I dont like that the bottom is not level... as seen in the picture.. the bottom right is a good 4 inches higher than the left.
    2. The way its mounted I cant move it any close to the ground without moving it, and its already not quite big enough for the screen its going to go on.

So should I consider getting a different projector all together? Ive only got a week left to return this one.

I dont see any way in the settings to change that offset. Its no doubt due to the fact that its about 10 degrees off center to the right, although the top of the image is not distorted.
    Thoughts?
    thanks

i did a little measuring and it appears as though I can mount a projector about 10 ft from the screen, on the ceiling, dead center... which would obviously eliminate the #1 problem above. Now i just have to figure out the throw ratio crap.. ive seen all sorts of calculators, but it isnt that easy to use

I think i figured out i need about a 1.45 or so throw ratio to get 7 ft wide (size of homecourse screen) image at 10ft. so this fits that range...
    anything im missing?

My projector is 10'7 from screen and a Benq TH671ST short throw. My screen coverage is about 8x14.

I wish i had that big of a screen... for me tho, because im using a homecourse screen the image is 7.5' tall x 7' wide... so given that 7 (width) x 1.45 (throw) = 10.15 Ft, i think my math is good here. and this SHOULD fit that range given.
        Throw Ratio: 1.37~1.64

Or check it out on projector central I believe is the name. You can enter your projector model and dimensions and it calculates the distance from screen.

Yeah so thats whats tricky... the screen size on the homecourse is no where near 4:3 even. much less 16:9 so those numbers in the calculator are not accurate because it wont let me customize the screen size. However it does look like it should work. ill take a chance on it i guess

Ok. this is REALLY starting to piss me off. So the new projector comes in, everything looks solid. I hold it up. size on the wall is right. Mount it from the ceiling , plug it in, and bam there it is. Keystone... Because its high on the ceiling the keystone needs to be about 12 to make the picture square... However when I make the picture square with keystone that completely jacks up the size of the display. So now it only covers about 6ft x 5ft tall, when i need about 7 ft x 7.5ft to fill the screen (ill take less, but not that much). So now im stuck buying ANOTHER projector. I mean how the hell are you supposed to account for every single stinking variable. Even the sites that try to assist you cant do it all... So instead of a 1.4:1 throw im guessing I need more like a 1.2:1 or some shit... either way I am pretty damm frustrated at this point

Does it have to be mounted in that spot?

Hi sherrow70 , where did you mount your Benq please? I have having indoor hitting syndrome, afraid of hitting the the projector. How high is it up with you and how far from your screen? Check my pics at my intro post
Hey everyone - I wanted to share the build-out of my Skytrak golf simulator at home. I’m living in Belgium (Europe) and during a work hectic, wet and cold

My ceiling is 10ft and the projector hangs almost 2 foot from ceiling. The projector is 10’7 from the screen. My hitting strip is basically directly under the monitor and slightly in front closer to screen. So basically I’m swinging away from the projector impossible to hit it.

thanks sherrow70, do you perhaps have a post with a picture of your set up please you are willing to share? I have exactly the same projector, but when going that far back mounting the projector, the displayed image gets way to big for me (enclosure is 3 meter wide, screen real estate will be less) and zoom is set to a minimum. Actually I think I just answered my own question. You have a much wider screen, so for you going back further is actually better to fill up a wider area.

Yes that’s true I have to go that far back to fill screen correctly

Sorry for late responses... was in canada fishing for 8 days...

So I just installed my new ultra short through... its centered in the ceiling, about 6 feet back from screen. about 14" down... with my and most swing paths i wont hit it. but I did notice in test swings yesterday, I cant get away from the feeling of hitting something which is terrifying and ruining the experience.

I have the same dunginhawk :-(. I was (am) subconsciously always thinking to not hit the projector. I know none of my swings hit it, but family/friends spectators have told me it's frightening close. I was holding my swing, swinging only with arms, no rotation, all subconsciously. Result are continued topped, pulled and shanked shots.
Worst part was that I took this with me on the real course, a week ago. I could not hit any ball anymore. I walked away with a shameful 15 points stableford.
I didn’t use my expensive sim anymore for a week and luckily over the weekend I was able to get back to 33 stableford on my home course (I am from Europe, EGA handpicking)
This weekend I am going to see if putting it very close i.e. at the enclosure itself is going to be any better. If not I think I’ll have to bite the pain and see for a non-short throw that I can hang further behind me.

I think my biggest problem is my garage, while plenty wide enough for a stance and swing (i may want to adjust my garage door opener) I am hitting in to the right side of the screen all the time. the left side never gets hit. It also concerns me that if I block it, or heaven forbid shank it, even the net wont save me. I havent even gone out there to mess with it in a few days because im so upset about it
