Projector and screen size help please

I built my hitting area in my out building and now need help with screen size and projector. I have room for a 10’ wide by 9’ tall screen. Doesn’t need to be that exact size. I hit approximately 11’ away from where screen will be. This can also be adjusted up to 13’-15’ away. I always thought I would mount the projector right above me. Ceiling height above is almost 15’ then goes down to 12’ by screen area. But I can’t find a projector that will fill up most of the screen. I have looked at short throw projectors but I am afraid of hitting it. Whether it is on the floor or ceiling. But if I did I would probable put in on the floor. I still want it above me in a perfect world. Maybe a short throw will work above me??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I can adjust all measurements. I don’t want to spend the extra $$ on a bigger screen if I can’t use most of it. I don’t want to see my shadow and I want a good/great picture. Thanks in advance!

Short throw works just fine above you, assuming the projector is above your hitting location or even forward along your target line. There are ways to protect the projector as well.

Thanks for the reply wbond! So do you think a short throw at 11-15’ will fill the screen up for the most part? I might be able to go as close as 8’. I think even at 8’ it will be out of my swing since it will be directly above the ball (but in front about 3’) and still at 10’ in the air. Thanks again!

You would need to check on projectorcentral for whatever projectors you are considering, but I would think that most short throw projectors will be in front of where you are hitting.

I went with a model from BenQ and used the below link to figure out where the mount would go to fill my 10x9 screen. It was spot on. Mine ended up right above the hitting area at approximately 10 feet. I think even at 13 feet I could have made it work by using the lens adjustment to reduce the size.

I went with the MW632ST it is a WXGA native resolution of 1280x800 (720p) and happy with it. I was trying to stay with in a budget and bought a BenQ refurb. I use 4:3 ratio and it fills the majority of the screen, have about 10 inches or so blank on top and bottom. On the link I used you can move the projector around on the calculator to see what it does to the image size. I'm using R-motion currently and plan on getting a Skytrack.

Triton Thanks again. I am using Skytrak and I am pretty happy with it except for the delay. Overall you can’t beat the price. I also think you can combine R motion with Skytrak. Not sure though. I will check that model out.

No problem, depending on how great of an image you want, you may want to go with something a little more than mine at 720p, The HT2150ST looks really good and is 1080p. Maybe others will chime in about that model.

Triton..... Is there a way to tell from using that calculator how far from the ceiling the projector should be mounted?

Stan, yes when you put in all the info (model#, room size, screen size) it will show you, you can also slide the projector around (click and hold) to see what it does to the screen / room. Sorry, mis-read that, does not show how far up or down to mount it but you can move it around to see where it will put the image, hope I cleared that up.
