  • Bad speed reads hitting mat

I recently acquired an old hitting mat style golf simulator and I'm finding that I'm getting a lot of dodgy speed reads.

Mainly with my longer clubs at full speed.

Pitching wedge quite consistently registers at 100 tot105 mph club head speed which I think is about right because in the real world I'm generally carrying an old 50° wedge between 130 and 140 yds.

But as soon as I bring longer clubs out I'm gertget the odd reading that sounds right and loads of 9 and 10 mphs .

Anyone got any ideas? The light is right over the mat at approximately 8ft, no other light leaks etc

Sorry, but "old hitting mat style golf simulator" is a little vague. Do you have the actual manufacturer and model of the sim?

Yeah it's a sports coach system before they switched to high speed cameras, the mats look pretty similar to protee stuff really.

Ok so those speeds are probably off then lol.

My pitching wedge is 70s vintage so I'm assuming it 50° or 51° . It definitely looks more lofted than the modern PW I compared it to the other day. And my distances definitely check out at the range, on the golf course and paced out on the field where I've been practicing.

I do strike my Pw, 9 and 8 pretty well with 10ish yd gaps between, because I've only just started playing and they are the club's I have practiced with the most.

I know I'm swinging the longer clubs faster but I've got a lot of work do on my ball striking with them so I can't really use them as references due to a lack consistency.

again I don't feel like I am delofting them too much at impact the Pw seems to just travel in a big arc and I'm burying a lot of balls in the ground on impact.

Not really sure what to think might have to book some kind of swing assessment and compare my own simulator results to that.

Either way I'm pretty sure I'm swinging my driver quicker than 9 or 10 mph lol
