  • Beginning stages of build - Projector placement - PLEASE HELP!

Builders are currently working on our house and I plan to put in a golf simulator in the basement rec room.

The room dimensions are 14w x 9h x 24d however there is a ceiling overhang and closet in the corner of the room that is limiting the size of the screen. Those challenges will allow the screen to be 10'6" wide by 9' tall. After looking on projector central, using a 4:3: ratio, I can project an image of 10'6" by 8'.

I need to tell the builder where to install the electrical outlet and HDMI port in the ceiling but I cannot conceptualize where the projector should go given hitting area. I was thinking of a hitting area 9' back from the screen and the Optoma EH200ST would be placed at 7' (according to projector central).

Does this sound well thought out? Am I going to hit the projector with my swing? Should the project by right overhead or farther back? How far back can I put it before I am casting a shadow on the screen?

    Any thoughts?

I have a 10 ft wide by 8'6 tall projection on hitting screen my projector is mounted 10 ft from screen. Stance mat is set for 14 ft ball position from screen because I use a Flightscope Xi Tour launch monitor. Projector is Ben Q MW632ST 3200 lumins.

    Hope this helps

I have an unfinished garage with 11ft ceilings. My setup is 10'x9' impact screen. 4'x5' CCE hitting mat. Optoma GT1080 Darbee projector ceiling mounted.

It is 12' from the impact screen to the back of my hitting mat. Which leaves me hitting balls approximately 10' from the screen.

Per the projector central site, my projector needs a 7 foot throw distance for a 4:3 image on my impact screen and the mount is centered in the middle of my screen.

When I hit shots from roughly 10 feet, the projector is 3 feet in front of my mat.

Apologies for the crude artwork/measurements/diagram, but i'm not a real engineer... haha.

hopefully this helps add a visual for you...

The projector was the hardest part of my build for me to get my head around. I finally called the guy below from The Projector Superstore and he was extremely knowledgeable. So much so I bought my equipment from him

I had the electrician over and stood on the ladder and turned it on to project the image test pattern to see exactly where it would need to be and then gave him the info of where to put the outlet and the ceiling mount.

have you verified that 9' of ceiling height is adequate to swing all of your clubs?

I'm only 5'10", but 9' would have me feeling pretty claustrophobic. and forget about my 6'3" brother-in-law.

Yeah, 9’ is not ideal, but at 5’10” (like myself) it would only work with irons and maybe a hybrid. I can get my 3 hybrid perfectly but nothing more. Depending on the swing, that could change. Justin Thomas, prolly not. Rickie Fowler could swing his driver since his swing is so flat.

6’3” would just be wedges. I’ve got a couple buddies at about 6’1-2” and it’s 8 iron or less and even then I can tell they adjust the follow through.

My ceiling is 11 feet high and you can see a 6-foot person he marks where the shadow would start casting
