  • Full set up help / opinion.

Hey guys! My name is Lance and I am a newbie to the forum. I've been on here researching for some time now, but this is my first post. I tried my best to gather as much info as possible, to avoid asking things I could find myself. With that being said, I am probably going to ask the beat to death questions anyways! =)

I have recently moved into new office space that has plenty of room for a simulator. 12' ceilings and as much room as needed from side to side and back to front. My wife and I had twin boys 2 years ago and it pretty much put a halt to the routine golf at the course. Which leads to just as much frustration the times I do get to play due to the lack of hitting balls. So I am hoping to solve a little of that with a simulator. Not to mention I am really looking forward to becoming more involved with the forum, meeting new friends, and overall having a great time with all of this!

I think I have pretty much narrowed everything down to a GC2, GC2+HMT, with a possibility of being sold on the GCQuad if you guys think it is best. I am wanting the most accurate indoor sim I can get as this will never go outside. I am a 6 handicap golfer and really like the idea of having all the data I can get. (hence the HMT idea). Correct me if I am wrong, but the GC2 alone doesn't show open/closed club face or swing path, or ball spin? and as for the HTM, correct me if I am wrong again, but it would give me all the technical info mentioned before, info that would be needed to help fit myself for the perfect shaft and golf ball?

Other than all of that, I would really like to be able to do the "online play" with other members, leagues, and tournaments. (pro tee I believe it is called?). Seems like a blast and a great way to get better involved here and meet a few of you guys! The best I can tell, there is a way to get the GC2 to work with the online play? Also, how does the putting work with this? Can I play the online stuff without being set up for putting? No idea how to get setup for that.

Last but not least, am I correct in that they make aftermarket software with tons of courses that can be used with the GC2, but the GCQuad makes it impossible to use the aftermarket software / courses?

I know thats a ton to read and hit on everything in a reply, but anything anyone can chime in with will be greatly appreciated as I am ready to pull the trigger on a SIM asap.

    Thank you all in advance!

    Lance

If you are wanting to play TGC2019 you will need to get the GC2, I can not say 100% for sure, but from all I have seen and I have talked to a few who that have the GCQuad, it is unable to be used to play TGC2019 at this time. I had the GC2/HMT and if it had not been for thinking I was going to have to switch to left-handed play I would still have it. The GC2/HMT is a great setup as long as you are all right handed, or left handed players, combination of right and left not so much, it is a pain in the butt to switch back and forth from side to side even having everything marked and no wires to worry about. I myself went with the QED Uneekor as there is nothing to do to switch from right handed to left handed play. It also has a high speed replay of the club and ball impact which I found to be more helpful to me because you can see what happens on each shot, and with the HMT there were time I would feel as if the information being show for ball impact did not match what I felt on the club, can't argue with a replay. I have only been playing golf for a little over 4 years, best score I ever shot was a 73, but I am a techno nut more information I have the better I like it, the QED Uneekor also is setup to tie swing cameras into it which I have and I think they have done a lot on helping me improve my swing. For now you have to use marked balls but that is being worked on, along with many other improvements and add on's. So there you have my 2 cents worth, hope it is of help.

GC2 measures all aspects of the golf ball including spin.

HMT gives the club info that you are looking for.

TGC will give you this, not sure on the league portion though of your question.

The best I can tell, there is a way to get the GC2 to work with the online play?
Yes the GC2 works with TGC for online play.

Last but not least, am I correct in that they make aftermarket software with tons of courses that can be used with the GC2, but the GCQuad makes it impossible to use the aftermarket software / courses?
Correct, GCQuad is limited to FSX from foresight. Rumor is it may work with JNPG, but as of now, that is going away in August.
