Garage Build prep and recommendations.

Im clearing out a spot in my garage for a Golf Sim build. This is the very start of the project.

I have my mind pretty set on GC Quad, Fiberbuilt Mat. I cant decide on screen and enclosure. Looking at options from Carls Place https://www.carlofet.com. Possibly the left side of the screen I would like to do a heavy duty curtain and rail so I can slide in and out as I want and then it wouldn't be in the way when not playing and just using the garage as normal.
I also looked at the option of getting the Foresight sim in a box eagle package, but would like to pick out my own computer and projector, plus it seems pretty expensive compared to what I can do it myself for. Just looking for ideas and recommendations. I put some blue tape on the wall for visual but that is 13' wide by 9' high. My ceilings are 9 1/2 ft.

I am fitting out my garage also... I went with a wooden frame and raised floor.
It's coming along nicely - I was a little worried about the wood frame sagging at the top, but now I have build it, it's rock solid (after butting in cross braces).
The advantage as I see it is that it provides for many options in terms of fitting out the enclosure - padding . tiles, baffles etc... because wood is easy to deal with.

I built my cage 10x10 (5 feet deep) out of emt from lowes and the fittings here -> https://www.canopiesandtarps.com/can...-fittings.html

It was super easy and very cheap. I did it for less than $140.

I paid a little extra for the curtains on the side (about $100 for two) from Chicago Canvas. https://www.chicagocanvas.com/produc...do-cloth-16oz/ These are a really nice, felty material and block light well. I bought a grommet installation set from harbor freight for about 6 bucks.

So you went with a 1:1 aspect ratio on the screen being 10x10. do you fill it then with your projector or have some bars. I am struggling the most on deciding on screen size and ratio. I have the size for a 16:9 from Carls that is 7.7x13 but not sure about that 7.7 or if I like it taller. I guess I can tape it out on the wall and feel it out. I was thinking 4:3 originally.

I got a GREAT deal NIB for my screen from a golf fitter in the northeast states. It was his backup screen that wasn't getting any use. I am using a 4:3 ratio and I have empty space at the top and at the bottom of the screen. It's not much, as a 4:3 with my projector gives an almost 8' tall and 10' wide image. However, having 10 foot ceilings and mostly being within 10-15' from the screen, it looks fine to me. Also a plus is that the screen goes from the floor to the ceiling so I don't have to worry about balls going under or over (I still have a net and padding coming out five feet from the screen on top)

Looks great. Can you share details on the work so far as I am in the same stage? Specifically:

1) What did you do to the floor? Just clean and then laying down some black mats? What kind of mats?
2) For the walls and ceiling, did you put any joint compound/plaster? Did you sand it? Or just primer/paint?
3) For the concrete around the bottom of the walls, did you just paint directly?
4) Any reason you went for the two colors on the wall? Does it help with the actual sim or you just liked it?

My garage "before state" is very similar to yours, so any advice would be super appreciated. Yours looks awesome.

They seem very nice. cant review yet until we drive on them a lot and use garage more. But I like them so far.
I got them at menards for a little under $3 sq ft.

2. I cleaned walls very good and also putty every single hole and taped cracks. Also did sand and then hand texture walls using a knockdown technique. Otherwise the plane plaster putty that I watered down and spread with a putty knife and then rolled to add texture. Then blade again to knockdown. Very time consuming. We painted ceiling also. I had old tube lights up there that I removed and installed recessed lights. Then patched the old light holes. We used primer + paint. 2 coats on everything.

3. Yes just painted concrete below after throughly cleaning.

4. Just like the looks of it when planning it out.

Unfortunately our garage was not insulated as it was pretty finished. So we have a retro foam company coming in to fill all the cavities in the walls and then blow in the attic. They do the walls from the outside. They remove a row of siding, drill a hole and fill with foam. Then plug the holes and replace siding. So they don't need to do anything to wall from inside.

I also removed the chain driven overhead garage door opener. Having a wall mount garage door opener installed so I have all the ceiling room.

Here is my floor almost finished and the trim around the middle of the wall where two colors meet. I need to decide on screen size soon as I will be close to start building my sim setup. Im leaning toward the premium 16:9 7.7 x 13 at carls place.

Thanks for the thorough response. I've been going through all of those steps as well. Are you planning on putting your putting surface/hitting mat directly on top of the black rubber tiles?

Super helpful. BTW, I literally ordered that exact same screen from Carls Place. Hasn't arrived yet -- I got it with the enclosure though. Will let you know.

Looks great. Are you going to have the garage tracks changed to the high lift option? It makes a world of difference.

I thought about it but they wont be in the way at all. So we were going to utilize putting storage racks above there.

? for you, I have bought all the materials to build the same cage you did, do your curtains overlap to the screen so that balls do not fit in the openings on the sides and top of the screen? If so how did you attached them as they wrap around the sides of the poles? I assume people wrap around and attach to the screen in some fashion.

I found that grommets every six or so inches and black zip ties work much better than the expensive bungee cords for the side curtains!
