  • The Hyperbolic Time Chamber - SkyTrak + TGC 2019

Last Christmas, I was lucky enough to receive SkyTrak as a gift from my wife and parents. They knew how badly I wanted one, and with cold months ahead (from Canada), they knew I'd use it.
From Janurary until the easing of the lockdown a few weeks ago, I played over 150 rounds of golf on TGC 2019, as well as spending a fair bit of time in the SkyTrak software on top of that.
Originally I thought I would spend more time "improving" but an actual round was so much more fun so I quickly found myself playing courses instead of going to the range.
In TGC 2019 I'm a +2 handicap, -5 on the member tees at Muirfield Village is my best score. In real life, before the SkyTrak I was about a 10 handicap, I would shoot mostly in the low-mid 80's with bad rounds easily heading into the mid 90's. I play most of my golf on one course and get about 20 rounds in per year. 82 Was my career low round.
Ok, so the lockdown ends, golf courses open and I am of course eager to see what, if any, difference a bunch of virtual rounds would make. First time out I shoot an 83, one off my all time low
round. I was also very a little nervy on the first few holes because it had been so long. Go out again a few days later. Shoot 80. It was a crazy 80... -1 on the front, +9 on the back. I wasn't even
really paying attention to the score, I knew I played well, but -1... Then I got too excited and played like Van De Velde for 9 holes. Go out a third time. 80 again! This time much more even per
nine. Play a forth time, 78! Was one of those magical rounds, had 2 chip ins, 2 30-fters drop, it was madness. Nevertheless, I was happy to break 80.Well, I just played my fifth round of the season (today), and shot a freaking 75!! It wasnt even magical. No chip ins, no 30 ft puts. I did not miss a single shot.

Crazy. I feel like ive spent the winter / pandemic in the golf hyperbolic time chamber and have come out waaay better than I could have anticipated. I just love playing the sim and wasnt sure if it would make be better or worse. I legitimately thought it could hinder my chipping and putting. I just feel so confident over the ball now, because ive hit so many golf balls, its like I can finally not worry about hitting the ball or making good contact, my mind is free to focus on other aspects, its so freeing its hard to describe.

I could not possibly be more satisfied with both the SkyTrak and the TGC 2019. I am blown away right now.

Thats a great Storey. Well done. Having a sim to work on the game in the winter (I’m Canadian also) is just wonderful. It has improved my game also. Thanks for sharing that.

Great story, I just got my setup finished and hope to have the same results.

I knew that was where I heard that... Hahah. Good on you man! Thats an awesome story! I had similar improvements as well. I'm playing a lot and my only real areas that I still suck is putting. Simulator is really hard to recreate and help there.

There's a really good drill where you lay down a metre/yardstick and try to putt a ball from end to end ten times in a row without it falling off. Really helps get you hitting consistently where you want to go.

After that you can just practice pacing on a rug with a tape circle or glass as a target.

Reading the greens is another story. Can't help you there.
      Working...
