  • Garage setup and how to us XBox controller for TGC2019.

If you watch the video, excuse my voice. Its completely shot. Anyhow, here is my build and how I accomplished a relatively low budget removable simulator in my 2 car garage in one bay that is able to be set up and broken down quickly. Also an explanation on how to use an Xbox controller for simulator play in TGC2019.

Xbox controller is a great idea.

It's really easy to use and honestly even though I would probably covet one of those control boxes... I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on one.

How do you hook up the xbox controller to the sim software? Does any xbox controller work? I have an old xbox 360 somewhere I could use...

An XBox360 controller won't work since its not bluetooth. You need to be using a more current generation xbox controller (Like from the XBox One S) It has to have bluetooth capabilities, and your computer also needs to have bluetooth as well.

I believe you could maybe use an old xbox controller that has the USB connection, but I cannot confirm that since I have not tried that.

Seems like buying an Xbox One controller makes sense. I haven't bought the laptop yet, but I can't imagine it not having bluetooth. Is it as simple as pairing the two, and then it's good to go?

        Thanks for your help.

Pretty much. There are a few tutorials if you google it.

Not sure if that really helps. When i am playing sim golf, I don't want to go back and forth to a keyboard or grab a xbox type controller. There are voice options to control game functions (voicebot), or you can make your own cheap controller using DIY arcade kits and joy2key.

I keep my controller right by the hitting mat. If i need to do anything, I bend down and get it...

        How does that work?

Something like this, or build you own.

Here is a thread on build your own. You can buy the button kit from amazon for $20-25, you can use shoebox or whatever you want to drill the hole to install the buttons. You can use the joy2key software to map certain buttons to certain keyboard keys.
I got tired of going to the keyboard and wanted something easier to use and programmable to use for other software. Next step is to put a shift button to let it do another set of commands. The control board is completely programmable and can load other profiles to it. It also supports macros, but there is no delay function to

As for voice control, you can program whatever like "scoreboard" and it will bring up the scoreboard, or move left, right, mulligan, or whatever you want.

I have used both XBox controller and keyboard on the laptop. My setup is outside so if I ever have issues with the laptop overheating and need to keep it indoors (in the AC), then I would use the controller. Otherwise, I have the laptop right next to the monitor and prefer that over the controller as I don't need to use both hands (i.e., I can still hold on to my club). I can't imagine how voice commands would really work for fine manipulation like aiming.
