  • How to keep garage warm or cool and any issues with equipment

I live in Ontario where we get some really cold and really hot weather. I am setting my sim up in a finished garage the temp can get as low as -10 Celsius and as hot as 30.

I am in a 3 bay garage I plan to try to isolate the one bay with the sim and then use a thick curtain to seperate it from the rest of the garage then maybe install a mini split? Or is there a cheaper option?

How does cold or hot weather effect equipment?

If you’re lucky often HVAC vertical runs to upper floors may use interior garage walls depending on your layout and furnaces position. From my basement I have 6 runs in 3 different areas of the garage buried just under the drywall, it’s like a highway. An HVAC professional will be accessing the situation next week. I’d love to just tie it into the FA/Gas whole home system. BTW, I’m starting with a fully insulated garage.

I don't know what the building codes are like in the States, but I'm fairly certain you can't legally heat/cool a garage space using the forced-air circulation from the house.

There's a reason insulated, automatic-close doors and double layers of drywall with non-overlapping seams are standard on modern houses: they don't want carbon monoxide from a running vehicle to enter the house.

If you were to permanently remove the garage door(s) and isolate the golf area from the rest of the parking space, you might get away with it.

Every circumstance is different of course. Having a licensed pro do the HVAC work. In my case the space is essentially all SIM. garage doors bolted shut, vapour barrier, studs, insulation, drywall so zero chance of C/O (well at least from a car running)

I live in Ontario. I installed a sim for my buddy and put in this. It’s perfect in his 2 car garage.
