  • Draw bias using indoor sim....skytrak...how long does it

I’m probably being generous calling my driver shot a draw bias. It basically starts slightly left and turns left. Using the skytrak and being only 7.5 feet from the screen has changed my swing. Hopefully this does not carry over to outdoors? So my question is how long does it take to get over the indoor swing syndrome? My swing speed using my driver is down 5-10 miles per hour and all my shots start slightly left and turn left. I’m usually 25 yards off center with my drives. It has been approximately 3 weeks since I started using my simulator. I find the biggest change on my follow through. I find myself almost recoiling after contact . I’m much better with my irons on follow through although I do have a draw bias with them as well. Is it that the skytrak being 11 inches away is affecting the swing or that I have an enclosure that is 8’ by 10 ft wide and 3 feet deep. It’s a little tight being 7.5 feet away and only missing the outside left corner emt pipe by what seems less than a foot.
im hoping someone out there had a similar situation and could lead me to a solution or give me some hope......thanks

Not the exact same situation but my hitting area is offset a bit to the right and found myself with a draw bias to begin likely just given the offset. It went away in a couple weeks.

I never found any real hesitation hitting into a screen. Are you able to move back your hitting area?

I think the hesitation is more from the screen enclosure. I’m a righty and I’m also offset to the screen but I think if I had to do it over I would not have built the screen enclosure. My semi conscious is stopping the swing because of the emt pipe on the left side of the enclosure. I need to somehow allow the club to follow through without thinking that I’m going to hit the left upright.

Have you tried to choke down a little on your driver to see if it gives a bit more freedom in your follow through?

          1. Could you slide over to the right a little more?

          2. Could you trim the depth of the enclosure?

It sounds like we have similar rooms. I hit from 7.5 feet as well with an enclosure that's 10x10 and 2.5 feet deep and slightly offcentered. I find that the 2.5 of depth is plenty and could easily trim to 2 feet if I needed to. Shaving off some of your depth might make a big difference.

Thanks...I might have to trim back the enclosure. I might even go to 2 feet. I should have gone with a wider screen enclosure. I’m kicking myself because the room is 15’ 6” wide so I had the room. My drives are off by 5 - mph and it feels like I’m punching and recoiling instead of taking a nice smooth swing. I can do it ok without the ball teed up but it’s all in my head I guess.

In my time with Skytrak at home, I have discovered that when I Chicken-wing my left arm, I start the ball left and draw it. For me, it was eye opening because I hit everything on the course hard, but left. I have since begun working on keeping my left arm extended through impact and now I can hit the ball 2 degrees right with ~350 rpm to the left landing it close to the line about 80% of the time. When I try to really wail on one, I go back to the hard left pull with the Chicken-wing.

I only realized all of this when I was recording my wife's swing and her ball flight was exactly the same as mine. Then I had her record my swing and there it was. My club would sometimes go almost horizontally around me instead of out through impact. Having the ability to hit and record inside has made a huge impact in my outdoor game.

Thanks. I have also been recording my swing. I moved my mat back another 6 inches today and I began swinging through a lot better. I had to pinch myself because I hit my 8 iron 154 yards today and for me that is unbelievable. I agree with you that I learn a lot about my swing by recording from both the side and back. I have also been trying to shallow the club. It’s been unbelievable getting all the feedback from skytrak. I have been averaging hitting 50 balls a day which is helping me a lot.

That's great! I hate to admit it but sometimes I hit 75 balls before work. I have learned, through video and trial and error, that the Square to Square method works best for me. I used to try to open and close the club through the swing, but that just doesn't work for me. I have a video of my coach (daughter) on my latest post that shows her hitting a perfect draw with the open to closed club face. I guess you do what works.
