  • Wedge work Sky Track vs Mevo+

I know this question has been asked and it basically a toss up, but I was curious if anyone could help for specifically wedge work. I am taking over a D3 college program and I want to spend winters working hard on wedge distance control. Our room is 24 feet long so I think I have the room.

I am currently leaning towards mevo+ as it has AOA and club speed and even though the spin number seems to be suspect the carry numbers have been correct from what I have seen.

Am I making the right choice?

If it was me in your position, I think I would use the Mevo+ in this case. Perhaps a98cr125 could weigh in. Also, Jay could help source one for you. He has the contacts and network to get you a good price on it.

      Curious as to your reasoning?

With wanted AOA you need Mevo+ Looks like you have the space too so would only make sense. Feel free to email me. a98cr125@gmail.com

      I have a Skytrak.

I’d probably look at the Mevo+ as well though.

I’ve been happy with the Skytrak and actually very much enjoying the short game aspect - wedges and putting - much more than I would have thought. It’s been super beneficial.

Thinking about practicing with a team, however, and a lot of different type of wedge shots, I’d be concerned with no-reads on the Skytrak. I don’t get many but I’m also not totally dialed in on wedge work and trying different things. That could be an issue that would be somewhat annoying.

I do think my numbers/results on Skytrak are accurate.

If Mevo+ I think you need to use the stickers which could be annoying to set up but provide much better spin reads from what I understand than not having them.

Your mat situation may also play into this in a big way. I’m not sure which mat provides the most accurate wedge feedback but it’s probably not Fiberbuilt which tends to have a bit of a fluffed up feel to it. I like it overall though.

      Hopefully helpful.

Isn't the general consensus that camera-based units are able to measure indoor spin a little bit better than radars?

Yes they a lot better when it comes to spin. From what I have seen the spin number are not as accurate with the mevo+ but the carry distance has been very close. Angle of attack is very important in wedge practice along with clubhead speed. So its like which one do you want to give up on. I go back and forth and could be convinced either way.

Carry distance will be a wash between the 2 units. Neither one is going to be more or less accurate than the other.

Mevo has angle of attack. Skytrak has angle of descent. Both have apex height. All are good metrics for wedge work.

Spin is pretty important for dialing in wedges and probably not an area to compromise IMO. Also consider the mevo needs metallic stickers so you'll have to keep balls of each player's preference on hand with stickers or else have them practice with a different ball than what they will be competing with.

If there's lefties on the team mevo is easier for lefty-righty use. And better for outdoor use when you get on an outdoor range.

Thanks all for the input. I feel like it's just all a coinflip and I am no closer. On one hand I know Skytrak is good inside and should just go with that one. Then I think about everything I am missing out on like AOA and club head speed and simulation at cheaper cost.

Try one - if you do not like it try the other. You will be able to resell the unit you don’t use fairly easily these days. You will lose a bit on the sale but you won’t be stuck with the unit. My two cents.
