TM 3e vs xi tour

Havent seen this thread posted since 2018, but what's the consensus on these two units? Since they're both a few years older now with newer units available I tend to see them somewhat similar in price. 6-7K for xi tour and 8-9k for TM 3e. If this is a unit that will only be used indoors are they equivalent in data provided? I think the price to upgrade the 3e to outdoors has lowered now then what it was previously

Former TM3e indoor owner here. While the TM3e is still older, TM still sells them new and also sell certified pre owned units as well. You are also correct that the price to add an outdoor license has reduced substantially.

I used the indoor unit with my ball at around 8 feet and that left me about 11 or 12 feet of ball flight. The software is also great and really cannot be beat.

I really learned a lot with my 3e as the software gave you all the club and ball data that you would ever want. I also found it to be very accurate and replicated my outdoor game very well. The only issue was that TM had indicated that they had issues reading gear effect on a toe hit I believe. Not sure if they fixed that, but I should note that this is really only an issue on driver and to a lesser extent your woods.

when I compared my 3e to my 4, I was very surprised to see that it was still close to what the 4 provided me information wise. When I looked at spin numbers, I found that both recorded spin within 50 Rpms of each other.

some downsides would include licenses costs if you choose to buy these. TM4 makes this a bit easier in that I can also get VG2 as part of my subscription price. However, the software is fantastic and you should consider if the current version would give you all that you need (which it should) as you generally get all features that were available at the time you own a licensed and just don’t get anything new that they may release in the future. I would call TM to see if some of the new indoor flight changes that the next release will include can also be of a benefit for the 3e (ie measuring spin with only 8 feet of ball flight with ball speeds in excess of 165 mph.

another downside is the lack of putting and sim software options that would be available to you (I think it’s just e6 - edited to add TGC as well I believe).

if you do go with the 3e and you find you start missing club data on your wedges, I found that moving my impact location right of centre (I am a righty) and moving the TM3e slightly to the left of target line and toeing it in really helped a lot.
