Able to adjust one projector to 2 screen depths or need 2 projectors?

First, thanks in advance for advice. I've been browsing for quite some time while getting ready to piece together a sim setup, and this site has been a tremendous help. I'll be building a new house this summer, and have plans for a sim/home theater setup. As of now, I am still in pre-construction so my options are pretty open as far as room dimensions. However, I plan on having a deeper section of basement dug for this (11-12'), so will need to have a semi-solid idea in a few weeks.

For various reasons, I'd like to be able to run a different screen setup for home theater/movies/TV than I will for my sim. I'd like to be able to have an impact screen 16:9 or adjusted with my video card to fill the screen or close to it. I'd like to be able to retract the impact/golf screen, and have a permanent framed higher quality theater screen on the wall behind with in-wall audio.

- Is it possible to achieve this with one projector using different lens position/zoom presets that can easily switch between which image is projected?
- If so, is it possible to properly focus both images? There may be a foot or 2 of distance change between the 2 throws
- Any recs on retractible screens?
- Will be using Uneekor Eye XO sim with e6 most likely
- Would ideally like 4k laser, and have been eyeing the LK953ST but am open to projector suggestions or ideas.

I think this is possible, but have not seen anyone do this. Many of the higher end theatre projectors have a memory function, but finding the right projector could be difficult. There is someone who posted here in the last two months and had a discussion on the possibility, but he still went with two projectors even though he had an Epson that came with a memory function (still did not find it to work). Might want to see if you can find that thread as there was a few comments in the idea.

Thanks - I remember seeing something semi recently about that but don't remember the result and haven't been able to find it yet. I've found a few projectors that have a memory or preset function, but not one that is a 0.6-0.8 throw ratio or so, and also haven't heard of any personal experience trying this.

edit: found the thread. Looks like an Epson 5050ub was used/suggested, but it has a longer throw ratio (as does the 6050) and not as many lumens as laser.

I've pretty much decided to use two separate projectors for movie and video. Here's what I'm considering:

I really liked the Epson 6050 with two lens memories. However, I couldn't figure out how to avoid shadowing the golfer with such a long throw. Consequently, I decided to move down to the cheaper 4050 (nearly the same specs....see previous post) and add a short-throw projector for about the same money. I was looking at the VERY expensive G7400UG with a specific replacement lens but luckily they've discontinued it. Instead I found BenQ's new TK700STi (just launched so limited supplies right now). It looks like this will be a much more affordable replacement. Plus, it's 4K with plenty of power. The Projector Central Throw Calculator shows that I can probably get a 7-8' vertical 4x3 image with minimal shadowing of the golfer.

The RK700STi has a throw ratio from 0.90:1 - 1.08:1. Is that throw too long for your application?

Keith I think a couple of people on here have now recd that Benq projector and have posted some comments. Good luck on the build! I am sure you are going down a good path. Prior to buying you main 4K projector for movies, did you check out Audiogon? Sometimes there are some great deals to be found on there for used top of the line projectors.

I saw this projector pop up a few times and it has been good to read reviews from people who got in on the initial batch. I like the idea of this with a separate projector for home theater. Might look into pairing the TK700STi with the LK953ST - both would provide a great image, and the home theater/TV/sports projector would have a much longer life utilizing 4k laser.
