  • Basic Liability Insurance

Anyone have feedback on what basic liability / property insurance might be specific to a simulator build... extent to which there is a need for any separate coverage?

Hadn't thought about it prior but occurred to me that I may want to if I'm going to invite friends and/or neighbors to playing should they trip outside or accidentally break the sim.

Welcome others experience and/or learning. Can obviously reach out to my insurance company. Thought I may get faster/better feedback here as I don't use a local insurance agent who I can actually talk through this with.

Any basics on coverage and costs are appreciated!

Good Question, I also wonder what would be covered if a friend was injured from a ricochet?

If you're worried, it's easy enough to have legal waivers drawn up for people to sign.

        Get an umbrella policy.

        Inexpensive, and no more worry.

I have had an umbrella policy for years as we have always had 3-4 dogs and you never know, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I figured it'd also cover any injury in the simulator as well so I reached out to my agent to confirm and see if there was an extra policy I could take out for electrical coverage, I have an EYE XO so electrical and impact are the two most likely scenarios. He actually informed me that I could take out a policy on the EYE XO that would cover everything 100%, no deductible. It's costing me a little over $150 a year.

Thanks Timmy5under , I'll have a talk with my agent about it as well... Seems like $150 or so is not much for peace of mind when having buddies over to play. After I read this first post, I've been concerned about injury, and one other issue (see below).

One question for you though... does your policy cover this, which I had never thought of, and don't even know if it's a possible liability: Your buddies come over and drink too much, when they go home one of them has a car accident and blames you, seeking damages. I don't even know if that's something to worry about? As easily they could come over any time and drink too much, then go home and have an accident?

The $150 policy is coverage for the equipment, our umbrella policy covers scenarios that you mention. Those are also pretty cheap to cover what could happen. Granted they tend to add up and like anything it’s a question of weighing the odds of ever needing it but in our case it’s something we thought was worth it.
