I'm doing the poor man's golf simulator
The ChickenStick allows for correct grip and works well for full swings (the B 'trigger has to be depressed during the golf swing, but I've set it up so that rubber bands depress the trigger, otherwise the trigger holding would mess with the grip). The Wii Motionplus does a superb job of tracking swing plane and face angle at impact and tempo. It won't give accurate clubhead speed though due the accellerometers maxing out at 3 gravities. For putting and chipping the wiimote has to be removed from the ChickenStick to give accurate acceleration for the forward and backswing.
I also have David Leadbetter's Wii My Personal Golf Trainer. It is useful for tracking your weight shift during the swing and for visualizing your swing plane. The ChickenStick is much harder to use with this 'game' since the game requires four different buttons to be depressed during the swing to ensure you are 'maintaining your grip'. I'm using rubber bands to depress them all but it isn't a very satisfactory solution. It is extremely flawed software, and the swing training program is awful - but as long as you just do full swings with your driver at the range (bizarrely it only allows you to use the driver at the range) and use it to check your weight shift and swing plane, it is still fairly useful. There is also a 18 hole golf course, but the putting detection is so terrible that it is more frustrating than fun.
I suspect that Tiger Woods PGA Tour The Masters is pretty similar to PhiGolf, Tittle X (SLX Microsim), and similar accelerometer based golf games but haven't tried them yet.
We shall see if my swing has improved or gotten worse (probably not possible), since I haven't really made it to the range since I've started using these consistently. I will say that it accurately showed my swing faults (significant out to in swing path with severely closed face impact, really poor weight shift timing) and ball path, and practicing swing advice on grip, setup, and takeaway appear to have fixed those faults at least in the game.
