  • Painter Tarp for "impact screen"

Before I purchase a real impact screen, I'm using a painters tarp to start off.
This will give me an idea of the actual size I will want to purchase in the future
while also giving me time to build a frame amongst other fine tunings to the space.
Anyhow has anyone gone this route?
Whats the best way to remove the wrinkles?
Whats the best way to get it taut?

right now I've hung it over a wire using a turnbuckle
in a 12 foot wide room with some easyklips...

I also hung a tarp for the projector and would like to know how to remove wrinkles. Has anyone tried ironing? I think the material is 1100 dtex polyester that is coated with PVC.

To get it tighter, you may need to install grommets and then use bungees. I wouldn't just rely on the tarp to stop the ball though, you will go through it.

A tarp will not work for stopping balls. I tried it at first and hit the first ball with a soft 8 iron and went right through. There is a reason why everyone uses a impact screen. Not sure what your testing here. But you can project on the wall to get the size. If that is what you're after. And as for getting the wrinkles out forget it. I still have a tarp on the back wall that has been there for 4 years it is stretched on the wall and it still has wrinkles were it was folded. After putting the first ball right through it I stretched it on the wall and use a net in front to stop the ball. I used it like that until I ordered a impact screen. The one thing I can tell you is the bigger the better when it comes to the screen. You don't have to fill it with a projected image. But one that is too narrow or too short will cause issues.

Get with Cory from Par2pro and give him your room dimensions, he will make it the size you need. Best screen out there IMHO. HD screen BTW.

Ok - I need some clarification here:

1.) bigger is better - I'm restricted to what I build out my Addition to - and I'm either stuck at 11'3" or 12' in width, my height is limited to 8', as I will be installing the sim in the narrow end of a Lofted Ceiling room, the ceiling lofts from 8' to 12' (where I swing)... So, that puts my screen at either 11' (or 12') x 8' - is that good enough, I would like a huge image of course, but want something that is crystal clear, clarity trumps size (I think)?

2.) the 'net idea in front of the screen', that is something I'm considering - is there some problem with that, as from what I can tell it will obviously be way cheaper, and if I'm projecting on the wall behind I can't think of a clearer image projecting onto a flat white wall? Also, does that lessen the noise, assume it does from what I remember at my local sim/bar the screen impact was just about as loud as the ball-strike!
