  • Launch Monitor Advice

I’m currently in the market for a launch monitor for my in basement setup. I have plenty of room in front and behind my setup my biggest limitation is ceiling height but at 5’9” I’m able to make it work. I think I’ve narrowed it down to SkyTrak, mevo+, or the GC3, however I’m open to other options. From my research it seems like they all have their limitations and I see some people have owned or own multiple units so seeking some advice on what will works best for my intended use.

My plan is to use this for game improvement mostly with some simulated play but the major goal is game improvement. I have the ability to use iOS or PC systems.

    appreciate the guidance.

The GC3 is hands down much better than Skytrak or Mevo+. If you're in the US, you could get a BLP which is the same hardware as GC3 and can get it cheaper than a GC3. Also, Uneekor is releasing the EyeMini in April and gives the same data as GC3 and is $4500. Even a used GC2 is better than Skytrak or Mevo+ and those are going for under 3k.

SemperFly The BLP software is the same as GC3, so you can use FSX Pro (just a range), FSX2020, and FSX Play, depending on which subscription you get. The driving range on FSX202 is pretty good, but the game play on FSX2020 (I haven't tried FSX Play) isn't as good as other software options available. I use my BLP with a 3rd party software that I find to be the best and works with just the Basic subscription for the BLP which is a good value.

COgolfengineer can the FSX pro software be used with an iPad and mirrored to a TV or does that require a PC?

SemperFly You can use FSX Pro on an iPad, although I've heard it can be a bit finicky. I installed it on an iPad but haven't actually used it.

I saw a post on one of the FB groups about uneekor requiring a software purchase with the Eyemini. I don't know if it was accurate or not, but definitely something worth investigating as it can drive up the cost quite a bit.

I agree. Get the GC3/BLP. Are you planning on range only or playing courses? Are you planning on taking to the range?

Mostly range with some simulation possibly. If it is portable I would take it outdoors on occasion.

Yeah that was coming from EU dealers so might not apply to US. There's certainly no mention of it on the Uneekor website and someone I know (in US) emailed Uneekor sales asking about this and they said Refine is not required to run 3rd party software. . Even if they do force you to buy Refine to enable 3rd party software, it's an extra 1k, so brings the EyeMini to 5500. Still cheaper than an unlocked BLP or GC3. Sucks to pay more but it wouldn't be a deal breaker to me.

I have a GC3 and can highly recommend it. Indoors, camera based systems are generally better than radar as they don't require space in front or behind. The GC3 will give you all the data you need to improve and it easily connects with TGC. Plus it's easy to tote it to the range.

I cannot use mine at the range reliably. It is so bad it is not even worth taking it and setting it up and only hoping I get it to work right. I hate the thing. They should stop all advertising that it can be used outdoors. Read the reviews on Amazon. It has 3 stars.

Sorry to hear that. My experience has been the opposite. Outdoors I usually just use the on device display, but I've also not had any problem connecting to my iPhone and using FSX Pro or FSPerformance (neither is a great piece of software). I was coming from an Android only GC2: the mobile software was outdated and Bluetooth connectivity was horrible, so the GC3 has been a joy.

Aside from hardware and software choices I'd recommend you do something to shield the window on the right of the picture. It's right in hosel rocket range.

I don't care how skillful those playing will be everyone hits a hosel rocket every now and then especially on sims since the tendency is to hit shots full boogie to see what the ball speed and distance are..

GC3 is good but only expect to be able to use it on a PC with the software and a wired USB connection to the GC3.

I have one, and I HATE it. I bought it to use indoors and outdoors at the practice range. For all the times I have had it at the range, I have been able to use it about 1/4th of the time.

You can use it outdoors IF you can find the compatibility list and then go and buy that specific IPad, which will be old and slow. You would also have to set it NOT to upgrade. Oh and if it is already upgraded to the latest IpadOS, it might not work.

I bought a Mevo+ for Outdoors and it works seamlessly and effortlessly across devices. Android and Apple, Phones or tablets.

I use my GC Quad outdoors and simply look at its display screen for ball data. If I want to see where the ball went, I look at the ball. What do you use the iPad for?
