  • Do you charge people to play??

Hello I'm wondering what the percentage of people that have Sims charge friends and people to play so that it helps cover build costs, upgrades, heat/AC??
There's only 1 place to play sim golf in town and it's $55hr but always packed and everyone goes 1 or 2 times a week to play so since I just built my own Sim in garage I was thinking why not charge $15-20 round when friends come over to play seeing as I'm the one who spent all the money on the build and have to heat the Garage through winter. If they can pay $55 a night to play at the Golf bar plus the outrageous price of drinks I don't see why it's not reasonable to ask 1/3 that to play full round or 2 at my house where they can bring their own drinks.
So how many people charge to play and how many have enough money to cover the costs all themselves everytime people come over?

Not sure you set up your poll correctly but in any case from my point of view the answer is no.

I enjoy folks coming over and playing but it is always on my terms. That is to say, folks don't show up unannounced or at inconvenient hours or when I am not one of the ones playing. If they bring beverages - great, but I invite them for the company. I built the sim for my enjoyment and that of my family, and it was worth the expense IMO. My two cents.

Ya didn't know how to set up a poll. My cousin said he wanted to set up a 4 man league between us and 2 friends so thats why I thought why should I invest more money into a CPU and Better software, grass, etc for them to get to play free that's all. Not like I was wanting big money just something to help with Propane for garage and upkeep

Don't get me wrong, if you are making changes for a specific 4-man league, one can always broach the idea of having folks chip in for specific upgrades they will all benefit from. That is really between you and your group. As a matter of course though, I am not a fan of charging for access for the buds.

Unless you’re operating a business, no. They’re your welcomed guests and you decided to share your toys.

Now, if it becomes something more than that, as you stated it may be a league that requires or would benefit from improvements, work it out with them but keep in mind their temporary access vs your ownership.

If you’re really hard up for it, ask them to bring the beer or spot you some future wagers.

Otherwise, be a good host and you’ll derive benefits in many other ways.

I can’t imagine asking my friends to pay. If they offer to pay something, then ok, but I wouldn’t ask for it.

Like others have said, be a good host and your friends will typically show their appreciation, you don't need to charge $. My friends that like to hit up my whiskey bar will donate a bottle every so often. I've never been a beer drinker so don't keep anything stocked. The guys that do drink beer will leave some in the fridge for others.

With that said, i've seen someone put up a sign in their sim that said something along the lines of "Any comments of "you should add..." or "it would be cool if..." need to be accompanied by the funds necessary for the project." So I would say they are welcome to contribute to infrastructure upgrades if they volunteer it, but should never pay for casual hangout rounds.
