  • Building my first sim. Large Screen / projector questions

    Howdy new to the forum.

looking at 9.5 tall by 17 wide screen for a good price,(16:9) ideally want to keep the aspect ratio native ( plan to run off iPad not a computer. Rapsodo mlm2 pro is the launch monitor. If I go that big on a screen are there short throw projectors that will light it up from like 10 to 12 feet throw or should I get a smaller screen and make projector choosing easier? Ceiling is 11 feet. The building is 66x21.5 I plan to diy the screen mount myself as I’m building out the walls now and am the point wher I need to frame the screen wall .

Any projector suggestions with 1080 p or cheaper 4 k? I want someithing that will light it up at 17 feet wide without costing an arm or leg.

building only has a few windows and can be as dark as needed I tried my ht projector at that size and it loses its punch too much just testing on the white steel wall

This site is a great resource for researching projectors: https://www.projectorcentral.com/pro...ulator-pro.cfm

I used it a ton when building my sim. You can search by throw distance, screen size, projector, etc. and it will tell you exactly how far from the screen the projector needs to be and how bright it is. Super useful. You'll probably find a bunch of options based on what you listed as your needs.

I have an Optoma GT1080HDRx I'm looking to sell for $600, if you are interested. Mine was set about 8 feet away from the 16' wide screen. I upgraded to a brighter projector a couple months ago (there's a lot of ambient light in my sim) and it's been sitting in a box waiting for me to take pics and list it. No worries if you aren't interested though.

What did you upgrade to? I've got the GT1080 and was thinking about the 1080HDR (or x) for additional brightness.

orangeman - I upgraded to the 1090HDRx. It's the laser-based sibling of the 1080HDRx that is a bit brighter. Truthfully I don't see a huge difference but that may just be my environment. I think I need to buy blackout curtains for the windows in my garage because there is too much ambient light during the day.

Andy, is this projector still available? I'm currently starting my first build. I have a 12' x 12' area 12' high ceilings. Utilizing a Skytrak Plus. How far will your projector need to be setuo from a 10 ft wide screen?

If you think yours is good for my situation hit me up @ chris.hollingsworth@millerclapperton.com , I will buy it.
