  • Garage Sim question

    7.7x 13 enclosure with benq tk700sti - garage simulator

I’m building out a garage sim set up.
Dimensions for the sim are 10 feet for height, and 20 feet by 20 for length and width.
I have an overhead light I will use. And get ambient light from small garage door windows.

    Launch monitor:
    Mevo plus

Enclosure will be carls place premium screen with 7.7x 13 enclosure

Mat - 5x10 hitting mat for left and right handed golfers plus gym puzzle mats and turf in front of it

I already have a gaming pc and will get gspro.

I’m trying to figure out the mounting for the projector where there wouldn’t be any shadows and to see if anyone had any suggestions for a projector mount.

Additionally I wanted to see if I’m missing anything glaring for the sim.

I have a garage setup as well and decided to make my own mount out of angle iron because the projector I had has a fixed lens. Then I got the cheapest mount I could find since I only needed the attachment to the projector itself. As far as shadows, the easiest way for me was to draw out the location on paper and see if someone would be in the line of projection. You can use dimensions from projectorcentral since it will give you height and distance from screen based on your image size you are trying to get. For the ambient light on the garage doors, i just got blackout material and used magnets to hold it in place. What are your plans for heat and air?

That’s for the response. I’ll have a firmed or two who are around 6 feet. Projector central is saying I need to mount 1/ feet out. The ball/tee to screen will most likely be 10 feet out. Would they create a shadow

Your minimum distance to screen is dictated by the launch monitor requirements for minimum travel distance to pick up the spin accurately. Best you can to with respect to shadows is to mount projector right over that spot if the projector can fill the screen from there

I would also point out that moving further away from the screen then necessary just results in higher lofted clubs hitting high up the screen therefore being more prone to bounce all over the place.

I will have a Mevo plus so I think that’s 8 feet from screen to call. Projector central says to mount the benq tk700sti 12 feet from the screen based on 7.7 x 13 enclosure. So that’s a difference of 4 feet. Trying to figure out if I mount it at 8 feet will the picture be okay. Or can I mount 12 feet back but higher up to avoid shadows.

Your minimum flight distance of 8 feet is apparently not correct.

How much space do you need for the Flightscope Mevo Plus Launch Monitor? Ensure your room is big enough by reading this article!

Looking at the article you linked and it looks like it states 7-9 feet of ball flight. I also got 8 feet from the Mevo official site. If I’m incorrect please let me know!

It needs 7 feet behind ball and 13 feet in front. Most all radar units have the same ball flight min distance simply because the ball has to make 2 or so revolutions before the radar can determine the actual spin rate with useful accuracy.. Camera based units like a Foresight are a better choice for indoor simulators since they need only about 6 inches to read the spin correctly

Makes sense. The 13 feet of ball flight is actually better as the benq tk700sti says it needs to be mounted 12 feet away. So sounds like it should work out well. Appreciate the insight!

Here is a way you can explore your own situation. Consider making a 2D side view image to scale such as this crude illustration in Excel. Set parameters for height of back wall, projector distance from screen, ball position, height of golfer to your goals. For projector, you need to understand it's throw range and whether you are casting 16:9 or 4:3 image. Most set image flush with floor and any gap at top.
